Re: [Film] Spider-Man: Into the SpiderVerse - Dec 14, 2018
I can't believe there's only one post in this thread, but I guess they really didn't promote the movie heavily. That said...
Go see Into the Spiderverse now!
I really can't overstate just how great a job they did with this movie. The story is incredible, animation/art style is really awesome, and Miles Morales brings something totally fresh to Spiderman that I can't wait to see again. I never would have expected it, but this is easily my favorite Spiderman movie...hands down the most creative, exciting, and meaningful take on the character that we've ever been given on the big screen, and right up there as one of the best comic/superhero films. Absolutely fantastic!

Wife will go to the live action superhero films with me. She has no interest in this one. I will be going solo.

Ads were very well done. Reviews have been extremely positive. I'll definitely being seeing it, but not until I can stream it.
I can't help but notice there are no pigs in that trailer.

Is it kid friendly? Should i be worried about taking very sheltered 9 and 12 year olds? They have seen Ultimate Spiderman and really liked it.

Totally kid friendly. Even the fighting is pretty tame...lot of action, but nothing crazy. I took my 4-year old and he loved it...didn't really understand the plot, but he still had a great time. My brother took his 5 and 7yo, and they really liked it too.stessier wrote:Is it kid friendly? Should i be worried about taking very sheltered 9 and 12 year olds? Re: [Film] Spider-Man: Into the SpiderVerse - Dec 14, 2018
Yeah, the point isn't that trailers exist with pigs, the point is that trailers exist without pigs. Like having an Avengers trailer with all Avengers except Howard the Duck, if Howard was an Avenger. That's a pretty significant oversight that is almost certainly intentional and changes the tone of the trailer to something different from the tone of the movie.
All the other spider-verse characters at least make an appearance in that first trailer. Spider-pig is conspicuously absent, imo.
It's a small thing, but it's a thing.
Sometimes advertisements misrepresent the thing they are advertising. This happens for movies a lot, and often results in disappointment for those who thought the movie was one thing but turned out to be another. There's a difference between witty banter between Miles and Peter and the silly of having Porky Pig in a spider costume.
It's not that it's a huge deal, it's that it's probably intentionally leaving out certain aspects of the movie, and this potentially changes the tone of the ad vs the movie. I don't like when they do that.
If it turns out that spidey-pig is just a quick cameo for a 5 minute scene or something, I withdraw my critical observation.

What is "Spiderverse"? Is it some type of prose that meanders about creating some intricate web of a story?

To echo the earlier comments - this movie was fantastic. It also takes real advantage of the medium, doing unique things that couldn't be done with a live action film. It feels like a moving comic book at times.
The writing is wonderful, generally funny and touching with characters I really cared about. I saw it in IMAX and I'm thinking about going back for an IMAX 3D viewing.
Can't recommend this enough.

If you haven't used it before, I find commonsensemedia to be a great resource for figuring out if a movie is a good match for my kids. In particular I like how you can click on the 'Violence' to get a somewhat spoilery rundown of the potentially scary scenes and evaluate if it's the kind of thing your kids would be bothered by.

Just got back. Saw it in 3D. I thought it was very well done. Definitely better than most of the other Spiderman movies.

It definitely has a specific tone, and if that tone doesn't work for you (global you) then you might not be as impressed as other people.
The scene where the kid looks up and sees a tangled mess of limbs of all the spidermans sticking to his ceiling was hilariously self aware. That scene alone made me want to see the movie.

Re: [Film] Spider-Man: Into the SpiderVerse - Dec 14, 2018
This is a great point that I didn't touch on before. The animation style gives the movie a pretty unique look and there are a ton of little touches that give it a cool comic book feel...shot framing, color choices, dialog boxes, visible words to accompany sounds...all worked in without being overdone. The use of animation instead of live action not only looks great, but allowed them to tell their story in a much more effective way.Malificent wrote:To echo the earlier comments - this movie was fantastic. I feel that the Spider-Verse isn't adequately represented if they don't include Spider-Monkey, the Peter Parker from Earth 8101. It's not politically correct to include pigs but not monkeys in a film of this scope. Who am I kidding, though. They'd probably use the same voice actor that did Kaa from Jungle Book, and everyone knows that it's wildly inappropriate to scale-wash a mammalian role.

This will be a Christmas family movie trip for us. Looks great!
It's 109 first team All-Americans.
It's a college football record 61 bowl appearances.
It's 34 bowl victories.
It's 24 Southeastern Conference Championships.
It's 15 National Championships.
At some places they play football. At Alabama we live it.

Such a wonderful movie. Took a bit to totally get used to the animation style, but that did not detract from what is, otherwise, a Grade A movie.

We took the kids to see it last weekend. It was really good. I thought I'd like it, but I had never been much of a Miles fan. Didn't dislike him, but just wasn't into his character much. But this was good, through and through.
And here's a link to "Spidey Bells" from the movie. Chris Pine.. goes a little Shatner in spots, but amusing.

Holy moly this was good. The visuals, the story, the acting... everything.
I left after the mid-credits Stan Lee tribute (my son: "If I don't pee right now I will burst"). If there was another post-credits scene that I missed, please spoil it for me.

I thought the beginning was pretty slow and I really hated the art style. I kept thinking the camera was out of focus because of all the slight double images. Really annoyed me for the first hour or so. Otherwise it was pretty good.
