Half the rent on a two bedroom apartment is generally less than a one bedroom. One third the rent of a three bedroom even less. You've now stretched your money further. Once you're back on your feet and working you can save towards your goal.

You don't have to like your roommate, just tolerate. You don't have to hang out with them, be friends with them, you're just sharing space and your room will be your fortress. Just don't be a slob in the public parts.
