Prime Day is here! July 16th 2018

Post by UsulofDoom »

All ready have my eye on the Amazon fire TV Stick for $20. My Philips smart tv does not support prime video. My Samsung TVs do.

If we use the OO Amazon affiliate link above, is that good on all purchases or games only?

fyi, my philips TV didn't work with my amazon fire stick... tried 3 seperate sticks and none would work. Just a warning. My philips was a cheapie from costco.

There's also a Stick and Dot combo for $45. If you need a dot.

Got the Stick for a Panasonic Viera to replace a Sony smart Blu-ray player that isn't really that smart anymore.

Also got a Blink XT system for my parents. They've been wanting one so I figure the price is pretty good today.

Nothing else I'm really in the market for. Maybe some Pelican cases if they are deeply discounted.

I can see no reason to go and buy things if I don't need them even if they are on sale.

I asked my wife to put off a spendy trip to the mall today in order to see if the things she's looking for are any cheaper during this sale. Then she got called into work 2nd shift and will be unavailable until morning. :?

I might actually pull the trigger on a Paperwhite. II'm still using the 6" keyboard version from 2010 as it mostly works fine. Every few weeks it randomly loses my place or the battery goes from almost full to almost empty. I really can't complain; it's treated me quite nice.

Anyone having trouble with the amazon site?

Are these fire sticks faster than the first generation sticks? I like my original one, but those menus are sloooow.

The sale site, yes. It just seems to loop back and not display anything. A bit slow as well.

Just using regular Amazon, no issues.

I thought it was my ad blocker or something...yeah, I'm stuck in a loop, their "Shop all deals" link redirects me to a page with a couple more links and a promo for Echo and Echo Dot, and then no matter what else I click, I just end up back on the first page.

It's probably why they are running it for 36 hours - because they knew their servers just wouldn't be able to handle it.

No go on the website or app.

Good for about a $20 drop in share price. Welcome to prime time.

They should check out AWS auto-scaling... it's worked wonders for us. Now I am wondering if the sale might impact our production systems run on AWS hardware cloudware.

Yeah - this is a black eye to be sure. Even when I can get to the site - the cart is completely broken. Points to a back end database issue right now.

The only other thing I'm actively in the market for (that Amazon sells) is a WiFi net. And Google's is going on sale at Target tomorrow. So guess I'm done for the day.

Just think if you'd invested like $5000 on Amazons opening stock offering and not touched it....millions.

In the early 1990s I was in grad school and had a Milton/17th Century Lit professor who failed to get tenure. After that, she moved out west to work with her old college friend who was just starting up his speculative online bookstore venture.

The friend was Bezos. My frustrated Milton professor is now worth many many millions of dollars.
Much prefer my Nazis Nuremberged.

For whatever reason that Instant Pot is an impossible purchase. It can't be added to your cart and trying to add it will blow away your existing cart. My wife had a bunch of saved items and they were all wiped out by the wrath of the Instant Pot! #primedayfail

If you would of followed that articles advice when it was published in January it would have had you selling the stock for a 20% loss in April or May. You should of done what I did a 5 years ago and sell Amazon stock after taking a 50% profit

Check the price match/return policy. You might be able to get it back.
It's almost as if people are the problem.
