So I'm looking for a parking spot near Portland today. It's hard. If I want to park anywhere near city center it's like $250 monthly. I think I'm gonna have to find a place to store my car long term.

Now that you're living in the big city, do you need a car? Can you make due with public transportation and services like Uber? Do some soul searching and determine if car maintenance, storage, insurance, parking fees, etc... is really worth it. With all that cost savings, you could potentially start buying board games.

My mom is still in California so yes. I will be making the drive to visit her soon. I also will be heading on a road trip to Mexico soon. I may decide to hit the east coast as well.Smoove_B wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 10:57 am

"hit the east coast" ... as in drive there from Seattle?
WTH? Why would you want to do that? Fly and then rent a car.
I did a lot of cross country trips when I was young. I wouldn't even consider it now. That much driving is just not pleasant.

Drazzil - I am not trying to start anything here but....
I am confused. How do money troubles, job troubles etc etc lead to trips to Mexico and the East Coast? Where is all the found money coming from that wasn't there before and caused challenges we've all been reading about.
Aren't you just going to start all over again with life as it was a last year by spending and not planning?

While feeding all the beasties out back I let a nice big fart. The smell followed all the way back to the house. It's like it was my baby and felt abandoned.

Okay, lemme explain: This place I have in Portland is COMPLETELY paid for by section 8. As will the electricity I believe. I lucked into calling an income restricted place that didn't have a waiting list on the exact day a one bedroom opened up. Don't ask me how that worked, it just happened I totally believe god has looked after me.Roman wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 11:29 am Drazzil - I am not trying to start anything here but....

I sold a number of things I couldn't take with me and came across a small pile of cash. NOT enough to DQ me from services or anything but enough to make my life not suck for a while. I should even have enough to go on that website letgo and score some furniture. Actually I already did that. I need to have it delivered this morning.
An east coast trip is prob off the table now that I think about it but a few weeks in a cheap airbnb apt on the beach in rosarita will totally be doable.

+1. You're making a mistake I used to make regularly. You get so used to being broke that when you finally have some breathing room, you overextend it.
Treat yourself. You've done good. There's nothing wrong with that, but keep it reasonable. A trip to the beach in Mexico is not reasonable. Buy yourself a cheap toy to keep you busy, and give yourself a trip to the new city that you just happen to have found yourself in. Check out a few of the local interests!

Always wanted to explore Washington and Oregon. There's a lot of beautiful country to see in your neck of the woods. And if you have a passport, maybe take a trip to Vancouver. The Canadian airbnb's might be more, um, sane.

A job is clearly his lowest priority. But he managed to move and find a zero-cost apartment without one. I wouldn't have thought that possible (much less tried to do it), so maybe I'm the sap here.

Or you can spend your money, make bad decisions, and keep riding that hamsterwheel.
You just moved to a new city and you don't work. Why do you need a vacation to Mexico? You are basically on vacation already. Explore Portland if you're bored.
The mind baffles.

My oldest sister was able to coast like this most of her adult life. She spent more time and energy working/scamming the system and various charities than she would have had she just worked. If only she would have focused that energy into bettering herself.

For someone that has a business degree, you seem not to apply the basics of financial operations to your personal situation.
You have eliminated some Accounts Payable. You have no Accounts Receivable. You have few assets, few liabilities, and zero equity. You should probably do something about that before leaving the country the long way.
