Tried making it to this, and failed. My insurance lapsed as I can't drive it and old provider wanted too much to maintain post license. So having my friend drive my car, would also have been illegal with no insurance. Friends Volvo can't make ot that far, as well as special transport. Uber would have been prohibitive. I could have taken a train/metrolink if I didn't have a docs appt.

On the plus side I sign the intake paperwork with a job agency known as EMS at the end of the week so thats good news.

I should also be getting license back in a few weeks to be insured again.

So yeah. If its tomorrow I can take the train.

I went to the job fair yesterday. I looked up a list of employers that were offering full time employment, less then 10 employers out of three pages of listing. I had my resumes with but no employers were even taking them. One employer was hiring for three jobs on the east coast, and none of which required the skillsets which college can prpvide

Great job showing up with resumes. So, what are you going to do next for the job search?

Re: Drazzil Mega Thread: What if I had No cats?

Post by Drazzil »

So. My oldest two cats are 15 and 13 respectively. They are both at this moment very sick. Oldest has a rasping respitory infection, and the second has bowel issues like chrohns disease. She is on some very expensive meds that do zero good. She is crapping herself to death.

So if these cats die soonish, that would leave me with the youngest two. I do not think they are super attached to me yet. I mean they love me but I dont think they would be shattered if someone else took them like the dying ones would.

They could be fostered fairly easily.

So I could be free to go where ever I please. Cat free.

The odds that you spoke to every company on that list is infinitesimal. However, that list should be an excellent starting point to apply for jobs through their website and reach out to their recruiting staff.

Okay, for the record, there were a few more employers then the ten I originally claimed offered full time employment. My mind put a filter on the bad fits. Military and alcohol employment not making it past, neither were the opportunities for further education or law enforcement. There were city postings towards LA. But without a license those might be stretch.

The problem isn't the cats. Find a job and then address the cat situation if you have to move.

How could I be trolling? I love my cats but I realize they are holding me back, I always have. A month ago when I ran Boots to the vet she almost died on the way back. She was unresponsive and covered in bodily fluids for ten minutes. Ace is very sick too.

I'm headed to an interview for the job search agency the DoR selected for me. I put in like three apps on my own this weekend.

The oldest cat is very sick breathing thru mouth only. Wheezing tortured breathing. For the last two weeks I was hoping it would clear on its own. No dice. I will be taking Ace to the vet tomorrow or the next day. I am hoping that this is a respitory thing but sneaking suspicion says something more serious.

Bootsies chronic diarreah has her down to skin and bones. She still eats every day but the pills the vet gave me don't work at all.

As old as both are 13+ you would think the cats passing would hurt less. It doesen't. My moms in a home and the only family I got left is dying.

Ever since I stopped drinking and smoking my neighbors stopped coming round. I will say that lonliness has done a number on me.

Sorry about your cats. Knowing that you're better off without them doesn't make losing them any easier. My cats (so far) have all made it to 16 or 17, so 13+ doesn't even seem that old to me. I hope Ace comes back home with you, but you do need to steel yourself for a potential one-way trip, as mightily as that sucks.

Good article. Keeping a loved one in pain to be happy may feel like love, but it isn't.

So I called the locale that my old classmate used to work at. She is gone it seems but I actually got to talking with another fellow who seems to like me. He told me to use his name and emp # under reference.

I think the turnover here must be high because they always need people. Employees get a bounty for bringing in fresh blood.

I dont think Enterprise will bother me. I'm used to working super hard long hours to fufill unreasonable quotas. The main cause of ppl leaving is long hours, which doesen't bother me as its just me n the cats!

I was told to apply immediately and call back when I have applied.

I've got a vet appt tomorrow. I expect to be referred somewhere I cant afford. My cats tend to die younger then they might have because specialists in any area charge you five bills to shake your hand.

Princess died of some kind of liver thing at 11. Stroked out and choked on her own vomit. Sheeba my other cat died on the kitchen floor when I was in Portland. She was 13 or 14. I suspect that it was FIP in her nervous system that did her in. Sheeba had bad health for years but would always recover around me. I think she mourned my three week absence and died of a broken heart.

Lucy was really sick and suffering kidney failure at eighteen. I put her to sleep when it became clear how ill she was.

The two oldest seem to be in a race to die. Ace is fifteen and suffers from a wheezing rasping breathing problem. His nose is completely plugged. I was hoping to avoid antibiotics as once you kick a respiratory infection with antibiotics, it tends to return in older cats within weeks to months.

Bootsie is thirteen has diarreah that has steadily increased in force for as long as she has been alive. I couldn't afford the thousand or so dollars to pay for gut cultures, but I had been treating her with steroids Now the pills dont work anymore. She is rail thin, in bad days she will arch her back and be incontinent, but on good days she enjoys her life.

I don't know how many "good" days my older animals have left. I'm constantly having to weigh their comfort against mine and ask myself if I'm keeping them around too long. I know both animals suffer to some regard but I *also* know that even now the cats seem to enjoy the majority of their time here.

So my sense is that I may have to call it for one or both cats in the next month.

I wish I had better news. There's something hiding in Ace's head and neck area that is preventing his breathing. The doc doesent think its viral or bacterlogical. I would need ultra sound or ekg at a big hospital to figure out what.

I would estimate the rough cost at around 2-3k to diagnose and excise cancer. I *really* love the cat, so this is one hell of a decision to make. I spent around 500 to 600 on Lucy before I could say that I felt comfortable letting her go.

The cat sounds like it is suffering badly and given it's age, I doubt that it will have much of a quality of life afterwards, heck it may even die during the surgery. Time to let her go, IMHO.

I was thinking about doing diagnosis up till we saw cancer, but my best friend in the world has strongly advised me NOT to pursue this path, to the point of refusing to give me and the cat the ride to the hospital. He says that it would be a futile gesture.

I hate seeing my cats die but I much prefer the gentle death at the vet to the horrible unassisted deaths my cats seem to have at my place.

I fully expect to lose both my oldest within 3 months.

You know, I've had three cats die now, and soon to be fourth and fifth within a 3-4 year period. I can almost say that after the second died it gets a little easier to deal with.

Yeah, bringing a sick animal across international borders? How hard can that be. I wouldn't think the quarantine period would last any longer than....what's the current immigration processing time at the border? And that's just to quarantine YOU for being in contact with a sick animal.
