Don't answer the phone. They will leave a message, and you can call them back later when you are prepared.

I know some people that advocate never answering the phone from a perspective employer and always letting them leave a message, which I don’t agree with. But if you are in traffic? Eating a meal? Yeah, let them leave a message.

Some of us just have social anxiety and don't answer calls from numbers we don't recognize. :ninja:

I don't know why but my anxiety is off the charts today. I guess when I'm not worrying about never being able to find work again and my cats being homeless, I worry about the state telling me I did something wrong taking and taking all my money and then some and my cats being homeless.

It was you - just you - that got the interview. Don't sell yourself short. Act as though you will get the job.

But don't stop looking until sign your first paycheck.

Every interview is good experience. If you want to experience having a job though, you need to exude confidence and show them how and why you are the person they are looking for. The interview chair is not a place and time to be meek.

Absolutely!!

I went through 6 different interviews for the Nursing Director position I accepted a month ago.

I was told the confidence I showed is what ultimately won me the job.

Walk in there and own it Drazz! Do your homework, be prepared, and don't have a failure attitude.

Read up on whatever good or service they're marketing so that you can sound like an old pro about it...or at least sound interested.

The very first interview I had right out of college was with Michigan Farmer magazine. When they asked me what issues I thought farmers were most concerned about, all I could do was stammer some bullshit about farmers being businessmen with the same concerns as any business. Oh, and something about the environment. They saw the transparent bluff and the interview was over in 15 minutes.

I'm happy you brought this up. This place is incredibly vauge about who they represent. I think I may have run into a mlm.

I applied because cal poly alum work there, but. I may have oversold this job. A little investigation shows very little about this company besides its own press releases.

HOWEVER at the very least I will show up in my best and do my best, cause now I want to know a bit more.

Well, remember that interviews are a two-way process. You are quizzing them to find out if you want to work there as much as they are recruiting you. If your Spidey sense is tingling, excuse yourself politely. You're not desperate; the economy's still booming and you have enough savings to buy some freedom.

I once made the mistake of taking a job that I knew was wrong (when the offer came I told Wife "I got the job, but I'm not sure that's a good thing"). I extracted some salary from the employer before he went belly-up, but it was a miserable few months. The economy was in the crapper and I was running on fumes, so I didn't really have a choice. You don't have to take the first thing that comes along.

Big on buzzwords, low on details. “In-person Marketing” is something that gives me pause.

Don’t hesitate to call the career center and see what they have to say about the company.

You know, even if it's a "selling steak knives door to door" sort of company, I still think there would be value for you in the interview itself. If nothing else, you'll get more comfortable with the process.

(Just don't sign any contracts or buy $1000 worth of knives :ninja: )

As long as you don't put money into the marketing job, it's going to show you are employable. Shoot for it, to build your skills, experience, and resume.

It's much easier to get a job when you have a job.

Anyone know of a good mental health internet message board?

One of my councilers a while ago said the NAMI forums were good, but I dont see them anymore.

And you guys are *wonderful*, but I get tired of posting my issues to somewhere not really designed for it.

I've occasionally visited Wrong Planet, but that's very me-specific. Looking at NAMI, I can see that they have discussion groups. Perhaps that's what you're looking for?

Re: Drazzil mega thread: I think I got the job

Post by Drazzil »

I went to the interview, was four minutes late. I also forgot the resume. Somehow it slipped out of the folder I brought it in. Other then that the interview went wonderfully. I read that the boss of the company was in. the military, so we. shot the shit about what he did. I thanked him for his service and the bull and he explained what he did.

The job entails selling seasonal items in the big box stores. The items tend to be big ticket items, and my job would be to represent them full time.

They would have a management training program that they are already talking about sending me through.

Now here comes the bad parts. The hours are EXTREMELY long and a lot of travel is expected [it is comped tho] and the pay is mostly comission. Training is paid [at a low hourly rate] and at the jobs pay is the highest of either commissioned or hourly. Interviewer noted that 93% of his guys made 11 to 15 hundred biweekly, but that his managers made 90k a year to start.

My interviewer Perry seemed enthusiastic about my qualifications and mentioned that he also took care of mom through IHSS [Or rather did] and I get the feeling that I was a little underdressed [boss had a very nice suit on] and said he had a final two part question for me but I should get that today

If I decide to take this work it will have its challenges for sure, but his products seem solid...

I have no clue what this job is. Are you selling your company's items inside another company's store? How does that work? What is an example of a big-ticket seasonal item? A fur coat? Summer vacation packages? Were you being vague because you don't want to mention it or because you don't really know what they sell?

So many questions.
