The first Stephen King book I read. The movies are always a disappointment compared to the books.

If I didn't just watch (and enjoy) IT over the summer, I'd probably be more concerned. That was a genuinely creepy film and a good approximation of the book (at least in terms of capturing the tone). Granted, I haven't seen the original Pet Sematary in decades, but I'm hopeful this is as good as I remember the original to be. I mean...John Lithgow is in it as Jud. Casting director gets an A+ for that one.

It seems like they are working to get every King book made into a movie or TV show right now. I’m not complaining... yet. As long as they are closer to IT and less The Dark Tower.
That trailer looked good, so I’m in.

Re: [Movie] Pet Sematary (2019)
I saw it not too long ago on cable for the first time in ages. It was not nearly as affecting now as it was when I saw it in theaters (which was during high school). It was still disturbing to seeSmoove_B wrote: ↑Wed Oct 10, 2018 1:24 pm If I didn't just watch (and enjoy) IT over the summer, I'd probably be more concerned. I have heard, however, that Mark Wahlberg is cast to play one of the corpses buried in the graveyard.

He'd have to overcome the comparisons to Kevin Costner's corpse. That might be tough to do. Especially if it's off-screen. I mean, Kevin's performance was exceptional.

Is it just me or does that trailer give a lot away?
Side note: my only recollection of the original Pet Sematary movie was the scene with Zelda in her bed. I don't remember much, just that she was super skinny and bony. It really freaked me out as a kid.

I remember the scene with the truck quite vividly. It's one of those movie moments that has been burned into my brain.Ralph-Wiggum wrote: ↑Thu Feb 07, 2019 4:40 pm Side note: my only recollection of the original Pet Sematary movie was the scene with Zelda in her bed. Achilles tendon slice for the burned into memory moment.
I remember a lot of the rest of the movie, but not like I remember that scene.
Chances are I was older than some of you when this came out, so the emotional triggers may have had less impact. For example I don't remember feeling anything about the pet dying (I thought it was a cat? Sounds like it was a dog?)

Re: [Movie] Pet Sematary (2019)
It was a cat, but it wasn't a very emotional death. It was more of a "Oh, shit. The cat died. What do I do now?" moment.

My wife loved the original movie with Denise Crosby. Saw it many times.

Hmm, how would I go about getting "Hollywood" to love me?

I was already an SK fan by the time the original Pet Sematary movie came out, and had seen most if not all the adaptations of his work, but at that time I was not going to the movies as much so I didn't see it. Years later on home video I checked it out and was not impressed. Stuff like The Shining, Carrie, and the Dead Zone set the bar kind of high. Therefore, this new version has an excellent chance of pleasing me since I have no fondness for the original.

Me too. As I recall, it was one of the endless parade of mediocre films from his books. I do remember the truck tho.gameoverman wrote:I was already an SK fan by the time the original Pet Sematary movie came out, and had seen most if not all the adaptations of his work, but at that time I was not going to the movies as much so I didn't see it.
