Every time someone famous dies it's a race to start a new thread. You win this time.

Image Suprised I did. First politician I connected with. Made me proud to be conservative at the time. Nothing I've learned since particularly undermines that. His dynasty has caused a shit load of damage.
If your first response to a eulogy thread was snark, Wish you hadn't.

I voted for him. I thought he was strong on foreign policy and weak on domestic but I always liked and respected him.
RIP.

I voted for him as well. I think in both elections. The last Republican candidate for President I did vote for. RIP.

One year older than my mother. I voted for Perot. I wouldn't want to land a great big Avenger on a little tiny CVL. RIP

I voted for him in '88, the last GOP Presidential candidate I voted for. He was a class act and a brilliant foreign policy President, but I don't think his party ever forgave him for raising taxes. RIP. :(

This is sad. Bob Dole helped out of wheelchair to salute casket. Poor old Bob is old and frail now. I remember him running for president. Doesn't seem so long ago does it? The mind stays but the body goes.

Bush the First was the last GOP candidate I voted for. He is one of 4 presidents I saw live...at the time, he was on the campaign trail and participated in the Houby Parade through Berwyn and Cicero (don't know what a houby is? Think fungus). This was the waning days of Bohemian ghettodom for that 'hood and he spoke of Eastern European policy in post-Berlin Wall Europe.

A friend of mine, an Elvis impersonator, was performing across the street. I believe that was the last time I ever saw him.

Bush Sr was the first one I ever was actively against and voted against in my first time ever voting...that counted. There was that vote in 2nd or 3rd grade where I voted Carter.
