Sooooo...who do people think is going to be on the Iron Throne at the end? I'm willing to rule out a complete white walker victory (I don't think even GoT would go *that* dark).

I'm pulling for Gendry, myself.

Nobody. It'll be tossed into the sea and replaced with two new ones.

Based on the trailer, Cersei. Her plan works. The white walker decimate the north, Jon sacrifices danerys, assassins come for Jon. Sophie turner takes the throne in the north. Cersei consolidates her power in the south.

The final shot being Arya, wearing Geoffrey's face, stabbing her in the throat.

Roll credits.

Only issue is the Valynqar (sp?) prophecy says that she'll be strangled by her little brother. So it could be Arya, but she would have to be wearing Tyrion's or Jaime's face (or it could actually be either of the latter two).

What need has death for a throne?

The wheel turns.

Also replace Geoffrey with tyrion's face after he dies (by Arya) getting all jealous over dany and jon

Winter has come? Finally, feels like we've been waiting forever for this season. Even though I'm so tired of winter at this point, bring it on! Did they ironically release it just as Spring is about to roll around the corner?

I read a rather compelling article the other day about how Gendry might actually have one of the best claims to the Iron Throne. It was based around the theory that Gendry's parents were actually Cersei and Robert Baratheon, but that Cersei sent him away because she wanted nothing to do with a child that was actually Robert's and not Jaime's.

Was an interesting theory...will see if I can dig it up again.

How would Cersei convince Robert to send away his rightful heir and make up a story about him being a bastard? Why would Robert agree to this?

That's my thought. My memory was 7 pt 2 was supposed be released in Winter when all the other seasons were summer releases because winter is here. And then it releases in spring. :?

...

The title Song of Fire and Ice has long since suggested Jon and Dynerys will sit on the throne, though others keep saying Jon is fire and ice himself. She may have the blood of dragons but he would at least appear to be chosen by the Lord of Light and have a sister who has cheated the many faces of Death and while she may not have won, death has seemingly at least taken a fancy to her insistence of "not today."

I'd prefer Jon to Dynerys. I don't actually care for the later. Honestly, I think the spice king had her character nailed the closest, only I add her righteous sense of justice seems born from her vanity.

All that said, I've always cared most about the story of Arya. The Game of Thrones and all its players isn't nearly as interesting as this peculair one of six children of a meeple, personal Odyssey.

My question is how much is Martin involved with the writing of the series? I assume they are using him as a consultant and they know the DIRECTION it's all going if not the actual specific ending. And as for creative liberties, couldn't the show have a different ending from the novels?

I would argue that not even *this* show would kill off everyone, and while not necessarily a happy ending, I doubt they would ask people to invest 10 years (20 or so for the books) and not have an ending that would please at least a majority of the audience (and yes, I know...Sopranos says "hi"). There may be riots in the street if that happens. Remember the uproar over "killing" Jon Snow off before they resurrected him? That being said, I feel that there will be major losses on both sides, many important people will die off, but in the end Snow and Dany rule over a decimated kingdom, uniting the two most historical and powerful families. After all, the series is called "A Song of Ice and Fire", so I think that's how the series ends up.

To balance out my prediction, I think that Martin (if he ever actually does) will finish the book differently from the series, and that will allow him to explore whatever feasts, night soil, group sex, and executions he wants to his heart desires. In fact, it will probably include all of these in the same scene.

This isn't the child of some bar maid who could be kept out of the public eye. Everyone would know that the queen was pregnant. I mean I guess they could hide that, but why would Robert go through all of that trouble? Was there some compelling reason for Robert not to go all hammer smash when he found out Cersei had cheated on him?

Maybe I'm not remembering the books correctly. I was under the impression Robert knew Gendry was his.

Wait...I thought Gendry was Robert's bastard with a whore, not Cersei's? In fact, I thought the Hand of Robert was killed for looking into his existence. That's also why Ned was killed, because he found that all of Baratheon's line had dark hair and eyes, and looked into the fact that Joffrey wasn't the true heir. She didn't send Gendry away, Ned did to hide him and preserve the bloodline just in case shit went down. Which of course, it did.

Or am I misreading the conversation?

Well, Jaime is a twin, so he's not a little brother. Could be Tyrion, although that's too obvious for GRRM.

I believe the prophecy suggests that she will be killed by "the" (not "her") little brother. That could be The Hound, especially since she has adopted The Mountain as her guardian.

Good, so it's not just me then. And being that it's a shorter season, it feels like the wait has been even longer for something that will be shorter. I'll be sad when it's finally over. I know there are different opinions about Daenerys, but she's been one of my favourite characters. The Dothraki language has been fascinating, and I believe they hired Mark Okrand (aka Klingon Language creator) himself to come up with the way it sounds. Last season, seeing the two sides come together after that long journey was pretty awesome.

Found the article
In true Game of Thrones fashion, there could be one more twist to Gendry's story. There's a chance that he's not a bastard at all, and that he's instead the first born (and only) son of Robert and Cersei. Reddit user roniza pointed out that way back in season one, Cersei tells Catelyn that she gave birth to a dark-haired son before she had Joffrey. She claims that the child died, but there's also a possibility that Cersei sent him away. Remember, the Lannister queen's devotion to Jaime is unwavering, and she took care to make sure that he fathered all three of the children she passed off as Robert's heirs. It's a stretch for sure — Cersei also says they had to take the child out of her arms because she wouldn't let him go — but it is curious that after he loses his mother as a child, Gendry ends up so well taken care of.
Also, from the actor himself (in this article)
In a Men’s Health interview, Dempsie admitted to finding one theory in particular very intriguing. “I just wanted answers about my character,” he said. “I was the most curious as to what we might find out about Gendry’s parentage. Obviously, we know that he was the bastard of Robert Baratheon, but who might his mover have been?”

He continued, “There’s a line in season one, and it’s a first scene you ever see of Gendry, where he’s looking to Ned and he’s asked about his mother, and he says he doesn’t remember much about her at all, other than the fact that she had yellow hair and she would sing to him. It’s one of those things where you go, “Do they usually write lines that don’t mean anything, or lines that seem to have significance that [are] never addressed again? I was kind of intrigued to see what that might mean, and what impact that might have on Gendry’s clout politically.”
Again, not my theory. I just found it interesting is all.

IIRC Robert took good care of his bastards, at least in the books. He paid for the smiting apprenticeship of Gendry, sent gifts to others and it mentions him visiting a daughter in the books. In fact he seemed to dote on them more than his children with Cersei. I believe she even calls this out at some point.
