The Steelers and Bills were getting close to terms on an Antonio Brown trade, but the deal is off after Brown nixed the idea of going to Buffalo.

Michael Bennett to the Pats for draft picks - still to be ironed out.

Edit: Wow, if this is the final trade, it's kind of amazing.

It kind of sucks for the Eagles, but I read that it was a move dictated largely by (1) cap space considerations; and (2) locker room chemistry and a feeling that Bennett was more of a me-first player focused on his stats (sacks, hurries).

Summed up well on Bleeding Green Nation:
You can also look at the trade like the Eagles basically undid what it took to get Bennett last year. So he effectively ended up being a free, one-year rental.

In any case, getting something for Bennett is obviously preferable to cutting him. It sucks that this move potentially helps the Patriots but it’s better them than an NFC team.

And thus ends the era of the Gronk.

I had him on my fantasy keeper team for his entire career. Well, all except for about half a season. I traded him away at the draft one year, he started out slow, and I was able to trade for him before he went off over the second half of the season.

He won me a lot of games over the years. A fun player to watch on a team I despise.

Yeah, I'm going to miss Gronk. Both because he was so dominant, and also because he's really the only fun, 'wacky' star of the Brady / Belichick era.

The retirement decision makes sense, though, with all the injuries piling up.

I could easily the concussion and whiplash and spinal damage. He was already trying to get up which means a bit for extra force going the other way, only to be hit from behind. Yuck.

Patriots just signed Austin Sefarian Jenkins (late of JAX, previous to that - NYJ). I've always liked him and on a 1-year deal with a 50k signing bonus, I see this as a very good move.

Interesting article on the NFL's compensatory draft system, and how the Patriots have used it effectively to add draft capital over the past few years (which now other teams are catching onto).

Rosen to Miami?
Via ProFootballTalk and NFL Network, the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals are close to agreeing on a trade that will send Rosen to the Dolphins.

Miami will send their second-round pick, No. 48, to Arizona, though it reportedly wants a pick back from the Cardinals because it feels the trade is slanted too heavily in Arizona’s favor without.

Done
The Arizona Cardinals traded their former first-round quarterback and a 2020 fifth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the No. 62 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Arizona used the 62nd pick to draft Massachusetts wide receiver Andy Isabella.

The trade comes one day after Arizona used their No. 1 pick to select Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray. The Cards drafted Rosen with the 10th overall pick in the 2018 draft.

Jets fire their GM and VP of Player Personnel.
In a stunning move, the New York Jets fired general manager Mike Maccagnan on Wednesday. Coach Adam Gase will be the interim general manager while an immediate search begins for a replacement, CEO Christopher Johnson said in a statement.

The Jets also fired vice president of player personnel Brian Heimerdinger, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington.

...

The shake-up comes amid reports of internal discord in the organization. ESPN reported during the draft that friction had developed between Maccagnan and Gase because of disagreements over personnel during free agency.

Both men denied that a rift had developed in their relationship, but sources said Johnson was so concerned that he began spending more time at the Jets' facility to monitor the Gase-Maccagnan relationship.

RIP Bart Starr
Nearly four years ago, when I visited Bart Starr in his Birmingham, Alabama, home, he did not remember the five NFL championships he had won, or the Green Bay Packers coach, Vince Lombardi, he had won them for. He could not place Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers, even though he studied Rodgers closely through the DirecTV package his wife and high school sweetheart, Cherry, had bought him as a Christmas gift.
...
The then-81-year-old former quarterback had suffered multiple strokes, a heart attack, four seizures, and significant brain damage within the previous year, and some doctors could not believe he was still alive. During one stay in the hospital, a doctor told Cherry her husband likely would not make it through the night. Bart woke up the next morning in much better shape.

He lost his memory long before he lost his life Sunday at 85. But Starr never lost his dignity while he reminded the world, in his last great comeback, that he was the toughest NFL player who ever lived.
...
After the strokes and seizures, Starr tried to will himself back to health. Cherry and his personal aide and nursing assistant would wrap their arms around him and, on a count of three, lift him out of his chair and get him going through his day. He underwent stem-cell treatments, and rigorous exercise sessions with his trainer, Brian Burns, who kept reminding the old quarterback of his greatness to motivate him to keep a scheduled farewell appearance at Lambeau in 2015 for the halftime unveiling of Favre's retired No. 4.
...
On exit that day in 2015, I told Starr that I thought he was the toughest man to play in the NFL.

He looked at the floor, as if the compliment embarrassed him. "Well," he responded, "I've been the luckiest football player ever."

Go look at the film of the Ice Bowl. When it came to Bryan Bartlett Starr, luck had absolutely nothing to do with it.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

This probably saves the Redskins from being on the show for a couple of years (they'll most likely be ineligible in 2020). Bruce Allen abhors the show and wants them far, far away from the team as possible, anyway.

ESPN
Former New England Patriots linebacker and current ESPN analyst Tedy Bruschi is recovering after suffering a stroke Thursday, his family said in a statement.

"He recognized his warning signs immediately: arm weakness, face drooping and speech difficulties. Tedy is recovering well," according to the statement issued Friday. "Tedy and his family thank you for your ongoing encouragement, and kindly ask for privacy at this time."

Bruschi, 46, previously suffered a stroke in 2005, while he was a member of the Patriots. He missed the first six weeks of the season, then returned to play eight months after the stroke.
...
Bruschi created a running club called Tedy's Team to raise funds and awareness for the American Stroke Association. He has run the Boston Marathon three times, including in 2019.
