Down 8.6 from my peak. Just need another 1.4 lbs by the end of the month to hit my goal (under 185).

My first goal was 185 by Labor Day; missed it by a week. I've had quite a few spot checks well under 185, but this is the first time I've managed to stick it on an official weigh-in day. My pants fit properly again and the chronic heartburn is gone.

Next goal is to build in a buffer before the weather turns nasty. Let's say 180 by Halloween. Going into the winter I'd like to regard 185 as my ceiling, not my floor.

I'm out of the obese zone but still toward the high end of overweight. The BMI table says 160 is the top of normal for me; I'd consider that downright skinny. 170 is more realistic. But that's going to wait for next year's thread.

This week was something of a test. Rain kept me indoors all but two days, and I abandoned my weight-loss menu plan for a diet closer to what I normally eat. I was still mindful of portions and snacking, but I stopped focusing on calories. I was afraid I'd creep up a pound, so hitting a new low for the year, down 11.3 lbs from my highest point, gives me hope for getting through the winter without ballooning back up. Just gotta keep on doing what I'm doing.

The long, inactive winter was very, very bad for my blood sugar and I was given 3 months to move in the right direction or face a doubling of meds, the precursor to having to take insulin shots. Aside from walking, though, it's still not possible to fit in anything approaching cardio. Bike has not yet left the garage this year, and trying to bike with the kids would be like those jet fighters trying to intercept Krusty flying the Wright Brother's plane on The Simpsons. I have to walk slow so my daughter can keep up on her bike.
205.6 - Late season improvement. I've so far been successful combating the high A1C, dropping it 3 points in 3 months, delighting my doctor. It's still slightly high, but trending in the right direction. It also helps that my wife is determined to implement prohibition in our house, and I'm retaliating by no longer cooking elaborate dinners she used to enjoy because, well, not much outside of breakfast goes with black coffee and when it comes to food and drink, the former is hard to enjoy without the latter.

Im not part of this thread as I usually dont pay attention to my weight. But right now I am. The highest I ever was is 214 many many years ago. My perfect weight is 186. Ive wanted that again for many many years lol. I was 195 when my wife passed and I became sick and shocked I guess and lost down to 187 in about 1 week. I stayed there a long time this year but Ive been kinda depression eating lately...or bored eating. And as my financial situation dictates I eat bad stuff...processed meats, canned stuff, junk food. Anything thats cheap and filling. Well my weight has jumped to 204 and I feel it. I have to get back to at least 188 and I have started today. Im going to go all day without food other than a bite or two of snacks and then eat one item at bedtime. Like soup or a sandwich..whatever as long as its one item only. Ive ate this way many years normally and stayed at a good weight. I hope to get some loss going here as Im also doing more outside now. Must shrink my stomach so Im not always seeming to be hungry even when stuffed.

On fasting, longevity, and the latest science connecting the two: I tried Prolon's starvation diet so you wouldn't have to.

It's an interesting read, if you're interested in diet and longevity. Myself, I'd want to see some indication that being hungry for x days increases average lifespan by y weeks before I'd put myself through the hunger. Because if being miserable for 5 days might increase my life by 6 days, I'd rather spend those 5 days well-fed. If I were facing chemotherapy, though, I'd be all over this.

Losing 2.4 lbs in one week is grand, but also potentially worrisome because I wasn't dieting and barely exercised at all. I had a particularly crippling throw-my-back-out event that's still dragging me down. These happen once every year or two, but I usually bounce back in a few days. Add a week of cold drizzly weather, and I should have gained a pound.

I'll gladly take the plunge if it doesn't turn into a trend, though. I'm now down 13.9 lbs from my high point and have a comfortable 4-lb buffer below the 185 ceiling that I set for the winter, with an outside shot at cracking the 180 barrier.

Seven months now, and I've only missed two workouts, both while recovering from a legitimate hospital-visit injury. My son was joking around the other day and punched me in the leg, and responded with an 'OW! Your legs are too hard to hit now.' :D

And yet I still haven't lost a single pound.

Muscle weighs more than fat. Sounds like you need more pizza and beer in your diet if that's the goal.

I took that into account, as I was actually gaining a little early on, despite burning way more than I was taking in. The muscle gain to fat lost was a factor for a little while, but that only goes so far.

The real reason is that I've gotten lazy with my eating. Blame where blame is due.

I always get motivated after reading such threads, but my attempts never go far. I often buy gym subscription but I usually drop it after a month or two. My friend suggested just to start running at least every morning or evening, maybe also get smart watch like this. This should motivate me more, I guess. Any thoughts?

The nice thing about walking (or running) is that you don't need any equipment -- just buy some good shoes and have at it. If a gadget motivates you (and I didn't click the link in case you're a bot), it might be worthwhile, but ultimately motivation comes from within. And, although everyone who can should stay active and fit, it's always easier not to shovel calories into one's wordhole in the first place than it is to burn them off.

If you're not a bot, welcome.

Not surprised that I reversed direction after last week's unexpectedly large loss, which I didn't quite believe. Still a good trend compared to two weeks ago.

Have been solidly between 170-173 for months. Got sick on Friday, weighed 168 on Monday at the gym. One again, headache, mild fever, dehydration, and lack of appetite is the best weight loss method.

Last week I didn't do any spot-check weigh-ins, had pizza and pasta several times, and even ate some sugary treats (very rare for me) -- basically, I reverted to my normal habits. So I'm encouraged that if I remain at least moderately mindful of diet and exercise, I should be able to stay below 185 thru the winter.

Probably won't be able to walk at all for the next couple of weeks because I need to do the fall yard cleanup and we have some winter weather in the forecast. Any time I can get outside and exercise, I'll be picking up leaves.

Lots of cold, wet days last week and this. I did get most of the yard cleanup done, and should spend another couple of hours on that if it ever stops raining.

I've just found you can get a double wammie if you combine one week of vacation in a location with little food choices nearby other than the included breakfast, and then for your second week go the sick route. Top it off with the airline vegan wrap that doesn't agree with you(although it's the best damn thing you've ever eaten on an airplane) and I think I've found the secret to losing ten pounds. Now if I take these diet vacations two or three times a year I should be good in two or three years. LOL  I also included a bit of shivering from the weather since there's no way I'm paying for coolsculpting@
...and having lots of mirrors to look into seems to help with the revulsion at what you've become incentive.

21 day semi-fasting vacation with hardly anything besides the included breakfast every day from airbnb or hotel. Helps that I was sick half the time too. The idea of a diet vacation seems to be a good way to go for me. Give me one task and one task alone. I've been having visions of pizza so some of the good that's been done might be undone.

Seven months now, and I've only missed two workouts, both while recovering from a legitimate hospital-visit injury. My son was joking around the other day and punched me in the leg, and responded with an 'OW! Your legs are too hard to hit now.' :D

And yet I still haven't lost a single pound.
December is challenging me. I get two days off from my workout per week. The problem is that this week I've got things going on almost every freaking day. Yesterday was errands most of the day. Tomorrow is Christmas. The day after we'll be out of town most of the day. Sunday I've got my pen-and-paper group all morning, and my online group all evening. That's four packed days where I won't have the time to work out without really reworking the day to allow it, and I only get two of them off. Ugh.
