RIP Super Dave Osboune

Post by McNutt »

Bob Einstein dead at 76

When I was a kid I loved watching Super Dave tighten his genuine Saskatchewan seal skin bindings.

Interesting fact - he is the older brother of Albert Brooks.

Aww...I loved the Super Dave bits on Bizarre (and the stand-alone show as well). Also liked him on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Every time I think that about someone I check my own odometer and think, oh yeah, I guess that's about right. :|

"May the great eagle fly over your house and shit on it!" - Super Dave, when on a revolving wheel while an Indian was shooting arrows at him in a "stunt"

RIP Super Dave!

Some really interesting info in that link:
But Einstein first made his name as a writer. His career dates to the 1960s, when he won his first Emmy as part of the writing team for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, whose staff also included Steve Martin. Einstein went on to earn Emmy noms as a writer on The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour in 1972 and 1974 and two more for writing on Dick Van Dyke’s mid-‘70s series Van Dyke and Company. Einstein also won his other Emmy as a producer for that show, sharing the 1977 award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

He was his funniest in the mid 60s when he was a stand up comedian. His SuperDave skit was funny too but not as much.
I always enjoyed his acts tho.

The man was a comedy legend and influencer from a funny, funny family. He will be missed.

I was never much of a Super Dave fan.

This. He had such a distinctive voice and played well against Larry David.

This is the best part:
One famous showbiz story involved the time Parkyakarkus [Bob Einstein's father, Harry] performed at a roast for TV greats Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. He got up and the place exploded with laughter. He gave the greatest show of his career. People were cheering. He then sat down and bowed his head, leaning against comedian Milton Berle. The audience thought this was part of the act. It turns out, he had died.

Lucy sat totally stunned and Desi left the stage crying. To a lot of people, dying onstage seems like the perfect way for a performer to go. In an interview, Bob recounted: "Someone once said to me, 'Well, at least your dad died doing something that he loved.' My dad was fifty-four!"
Bob asked the guy: "What does your mother do?" He answered, "She's a housewife." So then Bob said, "Okay, let's go over to her house while she's doing the laundry and I'll blow her f***ing head off. At least she will have died doing what she loved.'"
