Rest in Peace, DD*

Post by Zaxxon »

The Overlords recently learned that DD* passed away early last month.

I didn't know him well and don't believe he was on my list of OOers met in person (though I admit it's possible he could have come to a ChicagOO bOOardgame meetup), but I will remember him as a fellow member of our weird little community, and as someone who made me chuckle more than a few times with his posts.

Rest in peace, friend.

I'm sorry to hear that. I only knew him here but he and I seemed to be interested in similar things since his name is one I remember seeing in lots of threads.

Had some interaction with him on here and seeded like a likable guy.
I often wonder how one goes about finding out about the passing of fellow forum participants.
I'm assuming someone else on the board knew him.

Oh dear Lord I had forgotten about that post. I even posted in it that me and my wife would pray for him and we always did if I said we would. I had no idea he had passed. Im very caught up in my own personal loss right now so I will be missing a lot. Im sorry to him and his family and friends. Seems he passed before my wife even. Had no idea. Im so very sorry.

Donna was supposed to post something if I died. Now that she has died I have no fallback. I guess if I do not post for at least 2 weeks then you know Im dead. But I dont really care at that point most likely. I dont care about much right now as is. Maybe in time.

I saw this on FB when it happened, but he was one of the people whose real name I couldn't place with his forum name. I didn't say anything here because I didn't want the wrong person declared deceased.

In this case, his recurring PayPal donation started failing. Some Googling after that turned up the news.

I'm connected to more than 200 people on FB, a majority which I don't really know at all but had enough common connections to add. In the case of DD*, I believe we had 6 common connections, all OOers, so I knew it was someone where. It actually took quite awhile for this to come out...it's been several weeks now I believe.

I was really sad to learn he'd passed. He was a funny and kind human and the world is worse off for him being gone. I feel especially bad for his two kids, losing their dad 3 weeks before Christmas.

Here's the hero of Canton, the man we called DD.

If you think about it 2004 was a long ways back. Doesn't seem like it to me at all. Neither did me and my wife's 31 years. And I think I joined Gone Gold in 1999. So those years are 15 years and 20 years respectively. In 1999 I was 30. Ill be 50 this year. My wife was 44 and she passed a few weeks ago at 63. :( I hate time.

RIP DD
