Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Syfy are bringing back the Banana Splits, the trippy-dippy characters introduced back in 1968 as the anthropomorphic hosts of The Banana Splits Adventure Hour variety program. This time around, however, the Banana Splits are being served up in a horror thriller.
The original movie will premiere this year from Blue Ribbon Content, Warner Bros Television Group’s digital studio, via a Warner Bros. Home Entertainment release that will be followed by the television debut on Syfy. The official synopsis: “In the upcoming horror thriller, a boy named Harley and his family (brother Austin, mother Beth, and father Mitch) attend a taping of The Banana Splits TV show, which is supposed to be a fun-filled birthday for young Harley and business as usual for Rebecca, the producer of the series. But things take an unexpected turn — and the body count quickly rises. Can Harley, his mom and their new pals safely escape?”

Re: [Syfy] The Banana Splits
You can bet that if this does well (like Sharknado), that will absolutely be happening. I hope your sanity is ready for Witchy Poo horror spectacular in 2021.
I guess they wanted to make a 5 Nights at Freddy's movie but didn't want to pay the fees to the creator? So someone joked they should ask about Sid and Marty Krofft characters and amazingly they said yes? That's my best guess at this point.

When I was a kid I loved when Banana Splits came on because that meant it was the end of boring old Watergate coverage for the day and it was finally time for cartoons!

There can be only one Charles Nelson Reilly. I will entertain no further discussion on this matter!

Re: [Syfy] The Banana Splits
My weird retro son LOVES the Banana Splits, even though most episodes on YouTube are horseshit quality. He loves the theme song - and especially loves The Dickies version of the theme song. Since The Dickies did the theme for Killer Klowns from Outer Space, I wonder if this movie would use their version of the Banana Splits theme (it was previously used during a fight scene in Kick Ass).Smoove_B wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 9:41 am Rebooted as a...horror movie? Fun fact: the first piece of mail I remember ever receiving addressed to me was an envelope containing membership materials for the Banana Splits fan club. I think I was maybe 6 at the time.

They need to remake Far Out Space Nuts. They could have all sorts of wacky adventures...as they are chased by horrific aliens wanting to vivisect them. Let the screams and hijinks commence!

Re: [Syfy] The Banana Splits
More details are coming out:
The upcoming horror thriller centers on a boy named Harley who attends a taping of The Banana Splits TV show with his brother Austin, mother Beth, and father, Mitch. It was supposed to be business as usual for the producer of the series, Rebecca, and a fun-filled birthday for young Harley. But things take an unexpected turn - evidently filled with horror violence and gore - and fittingly the body count quickly rises. Will Harley and company survive? And if so, what will be left of them? I guess we'll have to find out later this year.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

Perhaps he might also enjoy Bananas in Pajamas. not quite as old, also weird, and has a catchy theme song.

Re: [Syfy] The Banana Splits
the 5 nights angle seems very likely. even if they never even tried for the 5 nights license, this is a clear copycat. perhaps there actually is a 5 nights movie in production, checking..... yes, IMDB says there is.
my SO is a few years younger, and doesn't recall banana splits, so her only experience is me singing the first two lines of the theme

Looks to me more like the were intending for it to be Five Nights at Freddy's but couldn't get the license...so they asked Hanna-Barbera to hold their beer.

Ah, I forgot about Five Nights at Freddy's. But the trailer still feels like an homage to KKOP.
