Yeah, saw an interview with Shannon Daugherty where she couldn't even talk about him. Any question that was asked, she just started tearing up and saying, "I can't talk about it."

It's odd, I never watched the show, never saw any of his movies where he was a starring role, and yet I am bummed by his loss. What is it that causes us to care about celebrities that we lose when we have zero connection to them?

I had forgotten that he grew up relatively close to me in Ohio. He was the same age as myself, so we probably went through a lot of the same silly school stuff at the same time...well, minus his looks, of course.

So much this.

I always felt his acting was solid. Bummer.

I never watched 90210, but I was really bummed about this because of his big role in Riverdale. He was really fantastic as Archie's dad.

Im sorry for his family and him. He wanted to live from what I saw of interviews. Had a life he enjoyed. Im sorry for all of them. Me I feel he is the lucky one.

Wow The 5th Element is one of my favorite films and I had forgot about his role in it . I never watched BH90210 but loved the show Jeremiah back in the day. Has it been that long since 2002-2004? I guess it has. I also enjoyed the 1997 miniseries called Invasion where rocks fall from space and infect humans.

I think Ive seen him in other stuff but looking through his IMDB page I cant pick anything out. It still bothers me. Dont know why. Always seemed like a nice guy in real life and would stop and do autographs and take selfies with fans. RIP Luke Perry. I guess its because he was a part of the periphery of my life for so long. And like my wife he died of a stroke complication.

Know nothing about him, other than recognizing the name and face (which is a lot for me when it comes to TV celebrities) but 52 is way too young.

How is it possible to not know who Luke Perry is, unless you were born after the mid-1990s?
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

He was in the Buffy the Vampire slayer movie. Y'all live under goddamn rocks or something.

52 years old is way too young to be dying of complications from a stroke. RIP Sideshow Luke Perry.

I know who he is, can name one or two things he has been in, but I have not seen them. Apparently he was in 5th Element, as stated above, which I have seen but I have no idea what he played. That's not on him, that's on me. My brain isn't good at who played what when.

I'm not too proud to admit that my freshman year college routine was to share 40oz bottles of St. Ides and watch 90210 and Melrose Place with the people on my floor every Monday night (or whenever it was on). I probably know more about both shows than I have any right to and I'm forever grateful to all those actors and actresses for the entertainment they provided.

Truly RIP Luke Perry. If I had a 40oz handy, I'd absolutely pour one out in your honor.

52 is way too damn young to die from a stroke.

I have 40 somethings on my unit every day who are debilitated from a stroke.

Most of us probably think of stroke as a later-life issue. I know I do.

What's the most common cause in younger people? Weight? Substance abuse?

From what they say on tv...

overweight
smoking
high blood pressure
cholesterol
heredity
age

And they all suck because my wife had none of that. She was a little girl, never smoked once, had high blood pressure years ago but it was perfect or low now for years, had high cholesterol but had lowered it with statins to below good, dont know that one though, and was just 63. F it all.

As of a study from almost a decade ago, , yes:
An increasing number of teenagers and young adults are being hospitalized for ischemic stroke, and more of them are diabetic, obese, have lipid disorders, and use tobacco or abuse alcohol, according to a new study.
It's the same with the surprising increase in rates of colon cancer in younger people. After excluding better (and more aggressive screening), the studies I've seen are suggesting obesity is likely the factor that's causing the increased number of cases.

I had a TIA at 42 that looked like a massive stroke. It cleared after a massive dose of clot buster drugs and a short stay in the hospital (so I didn't fall and bleed out internally due to blood not clotting) with no lasting effects. Doctors have no idea what caused it (I had flown earlier in the day, so that was possibly a contributing factor), and they never ruled out the possibility that it was a full on stroke that got cleared by the drugs before lasting damage could occur.

From what they described, his may have been a hemorrhagic stroke, not an ischemic one.

Ah, I didn't see that. The hemorrhagic strokes are (I think) broadly typical related to high blood pressure or some type of congenital issue with weakened blood vessels. Or a guess a combination of both.

I had a friend in grad school who died of a hemorrhagic stroke. He was young (early 30s), in good shape, and didn't smoke. Unfortunately sometimes these things just happen with no underlying explanation.

Perry did casual smoke whatever that means and smoking can weaken blood vessels. And if he already had a weak one it made it worse.

pretty much what's been mentioned. most of our patients could have lowered their risk factor by being a healthier person in general, ie: obesity, blood pressure, diabetes, no smoking, etc. that's from a bleed, for the most part.

ischemic has some common risk factors as hemorrhagic but you have to add in blood clots, most commonly from Atrial Fibrillation.
