The Verge: No Microsoft pranks

Everyone hates April Fools’ Day, and Microsoft is taking a stand against its own corporate pranks. Microsoft’s marketing chief Chris Capossela has warned all employees to not participate in the process of annoying hoaxes on Monday. In an internal memo, obtained and verified by The Verge, Capossela explains that “data tells us these stunts have limited positive impact and can actually result in unwanted news cycles.” He encourages all teams inside Microsoft not to do any public-facing April Fools’ Day stunts.

I don't hate holidays but chose not to participate in many of the trappings associated with certain ones.

I don't wear green on St. Patrick's Day, I don't play April Fool's pranks, I don't gift fake "winning" scratch tickets, etc because I think that's all pointless and sometimes cruel bullshit.

Now that I am finally done with retail once and for all, I am going to try to stop hating xmas.

On topic, April Fools Day has never registered much with me. When I remember it at all, I tell Wife "Oh no, it snowed last night!" She falls for it every single time.

A good prank is often a matter of opportunity and timing. Saving them for a particular day seems nonsensical.

Let's see, holidays old crotchety mortis observes. Easter, Turkey Day, Christmas are dinner with family. Sometimes Independence Day is also dinner with family day. On Equinox Dísablót, I wish people a happy Equinox Dísablót. I eat a Pączki on Pączki Day. I buy squares for Superbowl Day. We do lunch and pick horses for the Friday before "the Kentucky Derby", I vote on voting day. I am beginning to find myself also voting on primary day. When I am not a bad son, I call M&D on their birthdays.

I used to watch LotR every holiday season, then I started watching GoT. That observance was broken this year. I did nothing this year.

That may very well be the extent of my observances.

i feel like holidays have intensified, with more added in the years (no doubt due to the internet assisting). widespread corporate pranks on April 1st, more commercialism for christmas, more illegal explosions on independence day, more drinky-drunk casual racism on St Patricks Day and Cinco de Mayo. more 'odd people' doubling down on Halloween as their favorite holiday, more protests on May Day. pie on Pi Day, Star Wars on May 4th, Singles Day, etc.

i added Lunar New Year to my list of observed holidays, since the timing (and food) is better than western calendar New Years Day.

tho i think Talk Like a Pirate Day has run its course.

I got too tired to commit to Halloween. It used to be my favorite holiday but being great became the enemy of being good, or something, and once I couldn't commit to Halloween like I wanted to, I abandoned it. One day I'll likely have a purge and get rid of all of the Halloween creative memories that pretty much take up my entire "spare" bedroom.

co-worker went in for knee replacement surgery, got some titanium or whatnot implanted instead of bone.

so I got him a copy of Bionic Man, and then labeled everything on his desk. Bionic phone, bionic keyboard, bionic tape dispenser, etc
