I got some food at the local BBQ joint and it sent me a email of my receipt. I saw her use the little doohicky on the tablet/phone and Ive seen it used elsewhere...but Ive never got a receipt. How did they get my email?? I never got one before when I ate there.....whats going on?

TL;DR version: basically, the email you received came from Square and not the BBQ joint itself. At some point when you checked out with a store that uses Square, you agreed to an emailed receipt, and Square associated your email address with your credit card. Hence the emailed receipt.
If you don’t like it, you can log into the Square dashboard, go to the digital receipts section, and select ‘Don’t automatically send me any digital receipts’.
