RIP Tim Conway

Post by Isgrimnur »

People
He passed away at 8:45 a.m. in the Los Angeles area on Tuesday, his rep Howard Bragman confirms to PEOPLE.

Prior to his death, he suffered complications from Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) and had no signs of dementia or Alzheimer’s.

Conway is survived by his wife of 35 years, his stepdaughter, his six biological children and two granddaughters. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would like donations to be made to The Lou Ruvo Brain Center at the Cleveland Clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He and Harvey Korman made me pee myself when I was a kid. Tim was one of the greats. Thanks for the laughs.

One of my favorites was the running Koala gag.

There's one where he and Korman were on a sub during WWII. I think they were Germans. That was the first time I ever saw him and I was immediately hooked. I'd never laughed so hard in my young life.

RIP indeed.

Loved watching him on the Carol Burnett show each Saturday night when I was growing up. Carol Burnett is in my town tonight to share excerpts from the show and take questions from the audience and I am taking my mom for Mother’s Day present. Be interested in seeing what she says - won’t be an easy evening for her.

I wonder how many people have told Neil Patrick Harris that he killed Tim Conway.

My mom and I used to watch the Carol Burnett Show all the time. It was probably the first sketch comedy series I ever watched. He was fantastic.

My daughter and I play "store" a lot and I am tasked with playing the rotating cast of customers coming into her shop. My "old man" character is a shameless rip-off of Tim Conway's. RIP, always made me laugh.

OMG, RIP.

I remember watching Carol Burnett with my sister and my parents all through the late 70s.

I even remember noticing Tim Conway's expertise at getting other cast members to crack up. He was a wizard.

I remember him fondly from a bunch of otherwise forgotten comedies from the 70's. And McHale's Navy. He seemed ageless back then...and often the highlight of otherwise stupid movies. You don't see his brand of comedy much anymore, and that's a shame.

RIP Barnacle Boy.
I'm old enough that all the Carol Burnett references and skits and variety hour shows were standard fare when I was young. That said, his voicing Barnacle Boy (along with Borgnine as Mermaid man) was a bright point for me. I watched Sponge Bob with my kids as they grew up, and despite hating the idea when I first heard of the show (long before my kids arrived), I eventually fell in love with it. Loving the show was made much easier whenever Borgnine and Conway had an episode, particularly because Conway was playing a version of himself and all that that entailed. You could practically hear Burnett in the background every time Barnacle Boy had a line.

I hope Conway's life was a good one, he clearly had a major positive impact on a lot of people, and he deserved to be happy because of it.

Unlike Doris Day who's shit bag of a husband died and left her obligated to a TV show she didn't want -- a TV show that I remember her best for because it seemed to always be on in our house.

Very much this.

Carol Burnett Show was always good, but it was extra good when Tim was there.

I first saw him on McHale's Navy, and didn't fully appreciate him until I saw him with Carol & Harvey.
