Screenrant
Morbius was confirmed for release on July 31, 2020. The release date occurs during peak summer movie season, indicating Sony has high hopes for its next film about a Spider-Man villain.
...
Daniel Espinosa is directing Morbius. This is Espinosa's first time directing a film based on a comic book character. Since earning attention for the 2010 Swedish-language crime/action film Easy Money starring Joel Kinnaman, Espinosa has gone on to direct films primarily in that vein. Past credits include Safe House starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds; Child 44 starring Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, and Noomi Rapace; and Life starring Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Rebecca Ferguson.
...
The Morbius cast will be led by Jared Leto ... It was confirmed at the same time Leto's casting was that playing Morbius would not affect his future as The Joker in other films.
...
Doctor Who alum Matt Smith joined the cast shortly before filming began and will play the character Loxias Crown. Loxias is based on a Marvel villain but has been tweaked slightly so that he will be established as Morbius' former friend and a man who suffers from the same blood disease as him, too.

I'm in...in spite of the Leto casting choice. But hey, he has done good movies in the past. Perhaps he'll come through with this one.

It's like Spider-Man, but with bats. Like Bat-Man or something.

Seems they're going more for traditional vampire instead of science vampire. That's too bad. Also, I really hope they aren't planning on just making another Anne Rice vamp and avoiding the tortured, pale white with skull like nose comic book version.

edit: just noticed the still from the first shot of the trailer. Seems they are going with the ghoulish looking Morbius. That's a relief.

It's a bit less than Spiderman.

Looking forward to the fights between fans of Morbius, Man-Bat and Batmanuel.

I was nodding along until you brought up Batmanuel. How dare you take his name lightly.

In the words of the great one: "blah blah blah condom, blah blah blah call girl, blah blah blah paternity suit, blah blah blah excellent lawyer."

I know nothing about Morbius (outside of the Doctor Who villain) but I thought the trailer looked pretty cool. It certainly gives the appearance of a tie in to the MCU...

My only exposure to this character is through the Marvel Zombies book, where he's working on a cure in one of the timelines and his alternate zombie-self is looking to unleash the plague. Very brief exposure, and he didn't do much aside from being a lab geek and get fangs when it was convenient. He was the team leader, though, beside a reluctant werewolf, a demented warlock, and demoralized witch. Not exactly the "A Team"

I'm...not annoyed. So there's that. I guess I'm cautiously optimistic. The Venom movies aren't my bag, so hopefully this will play out differently.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think I could go the rest of my life without seeing another comic-book movie.

*In theory* this should be different in the sense that he's not really a traditional "super hero" - so the tone of the film might be quite different than what people are thinking. That being said, it is Jared Leto so it could go either way.

He’s actually a good actor. I think that gets forgotten amidst his weirdness.

You missed it! And so did I, but this is a movie I'd not pay to see anyway. Give it a few more months and it might be on Amazon Prime.

It would have been worth a $6 matinee to me.
But apparently not even worth that........

The reviews have scared me off. The Venom movies are complete shit, so I suspect this follows suit. Maybe when it hits streaming.

I liked the first Venom movie, but the vampire theme here just didn't have a lot of appeal to me.
