Re: RIP Rutger Hauer
One of my all time favorite actors. I would watch a film just because he was in it at one point. So many memorable films from my teens featured Rutger. RIP to one of the greats.
Time to rewatch both Blade Runner AND the equally excellent Flesh + Blood this weekend. Oh, and one of my guilty pleasure films, Split Second is available on Amazon Prime. I may have to toss that in there too.

Yup, he was great in The Hitcher. Oh, and I just remembered another cheesy but great Rutger film that I loved as a teen:

The Hitcher was one of my favorites when I was a teen. Blind Fury was a lot better than I expected.

Blind Fury. I was trying to remember the name. Another one I always remember fondly.

I was looking through his movies to see how many I'd seen when I found this:
Hobo with a Shotgun
Hobo with a Shotgun
How on earth did I miss that?IMDB wrote:A homeless vigilante blows away crooked cops, pedophile Santas, and other scumbags with his trusty pump-action shotgun.

And Ladyhawke. I pretty much always stop to watch that one if I'm flipping channels and run across it.

Flesh+Blood. Although that movie might be helped a lot by an oft-naked Jennifer Jason Leigh.

There were a few things that puzzled me about Nighthawks. Probably the biggest one being why the hell you guys like it.

It had Sylvester Stallone, Rutger Hauer and Billy Dee Williams, none of whom dressed as cats.

Granted, that last caveat is a good point. And I had forgotten that Billy Dee-lightful Williams was in it. But still...

It was a simpler time. I didn't demand much from my action movies back then. I was content with Nighthawks, Remo Williams, Megaforce and Enter the Ninja.

Re: RIP Rutger Hauer
At that time Raider of the Lost Ark defined action movie for me... And then there was BladeRunner which had me captivated, even if I was still a child and couldn't comprehend what I was watching, it was so beautiful to watch and of course Exaclibur. Action movies were so much slower then (until Raiders)
It wasn't but a year or two later I'd get Terminator. That was the hook for me and action movies. I still remember seeing that on the small screen as a rental at a friends house after staying way too late and it felt like it changed everything.
I'd circle back to Ladyhawke as a blend of action and fantasy at that time but for some reason it's hard for me to remember details of that movie. Maybe I should find a way to remedy that in tribute.

Re: RIP Rutger Hauer
I found that Ladyhawke aged terribly. Most of the reason was for the music, which did not fit that film at all.
I really miss the days of slower action movies. Now movies require 75% of the film to be action shots. Slow down, Hollywood! I can follow along without the unnecessary adrenaline shots.

Yeah, Stallone's cop even says "I didn't join the force to shoot to kill"... definitively a simpler time

Re: RIP Rutger Hauer
He was 75 if Im seeing it right.
Was taking a break but spotted this and had to post. His name always stands out when you see it.
Loved him in Blade Runner. That improvised speech at the end that he redid was perfect and memorable.
Also loved Ladyhawke as a teen.
Also I really loved the tv miniseries Merlin with Sam Neill and he played the King in it.
RIP.

Any time I saw him on the screen when flipping channels I stopped and watched. For me he was an all time great. RIP.

I would like to issue a correction. The quote I used above is from Stallone in Cobra. I have fired my head writer and I do apologize for the error.

Re: RIP Rutger Hauer
It just occurred to me that Roy Batty would have died last month (Blade Runner is set in November 2019) and that he and Hauer died in the same year just 4 months apart.
Huh.
Huh.
