I would argue him staying with Jabba and participating in the battle that got him "killed", with no skin in the game, suggests some personal character deficits.

So we have the Emperor, Darth Maul, and Boba Fett coming back from presumed death. Who is next? TK-421? That being said, I liked the episode despite the battle seems a bit over the top with the kill ratios.

That was my only complaint. The Stormtroopers were comically inept. A guy swinging a pipe killed fifteen of them. One was killed by a slow moving rock that he saw rolling at him.

I thought the production values on this last episode was the worst of the season. It could just be that it took place in a less interesting landscape, but the action parts that took place on land look Zena/ college tv levels of quality to me. And Baby Yoda was more noticeably a puppet than in any other episode, especially when the Mandalorian was carrying him to the alter.

Freyland wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 8:44 pmAlso, irritating:
Spoiler:
I totally get that characters have to sometimes do the wrong thing to make the plot move along, but you can't make it something overtly stupid and out of character. During the initial encounter with BF, Mando had to set down his jet pack. Fine. But when the Transport showed up, and everybody went their own way, Mando leaves the jetpack essentially at his feet to run up the hill! Would that ever have a chance to happen? Dude is *not* going to forget any part of his culture-coded armor, and he certainly would think to fly up the hill rather than run it.
Spoiler:
This is the first time I thought this series just threw down some *shit writing*. When Boba said put down the jet pack, I said out loud, "Why?" Then they focused a shot on it being put down and I said to my wife, "The child is being taken and it'll be because he put down the jet pack for absolutely no reason". My guess is they wrote themselves into a corner on the many ways this plot shouldn't have worked and just steamrolled through it. I still liked the episode and thematically destroying the ship / pairing them up with Fenyk and Boba are a good idea.

That question is not as dumb as it sounds. It is essentially a short way of saying, "Did you have any relatives on the planet when it was destroyed?"

But unless there was some prior mass exodus from the planet, the answer is pretty obvious.

Uh, it is an era of extensive space travel. Obviously the Gina character escaped. Would not require a mass exodus. I didn't say it was a good question, just not as dumb as it sounds.

I'd say it's pretty consistent with RotJ where the ewoks basically threw rocks at them and seemed to be able to beat them. If anything their skills are upgraded a bit here.

Right, but it was also dumb in ROTJ. I never gave that movie a pass for all its shortcomings.

As for losing someone on when a planet was destroyed, while space travel was common, it's pretty hard to imagine everyone she knew had left that planet. The way that question was asked was just ridiculous.

I hate having to defend a stupid question, but:

She might have no relatives.
Some relatives may have escaped but not others
She could have spirited her relatives away
"Anyone" could also refer to friends or lovers

It was just a setup for her response. I think it was, "I lost everyone" and was telegraphed a mile away. Character development, such as it is on a 30 minute show, demanded it.

Plus we're dealing with Star Wars, where the universe was given birth with the Rebel Alliance letting a teenage farmhand who had never flown an X-Wing lead a bombing run on a battle station where failure would mean the end of the Rebels. It's all great fun, but I've often been confused about when we demand seriousness and logic in the Star Wars universe and when we give it a pass.

Firstly, yeah, this isn't meant to be taken too seriously.

Second, pedantic mode on: Luke didn't lead the bombing run. He was the last string, final Hail Mary longshot after all the other, purportedly better pilots had all been wiped out.

Counter pedantry, he did lead the final (and only successful) bombing run.

But he wasn't chosen by Rebel Command to do so.

(Self pedantry: actually Red Leader did tell Luke to take Red 2 & 3 [Biggs and Wedge] aside and wait for his signal before starting their run)

You could argue that either Biggs or Wedge should have lead the final run but Biggs knew Luke was the better pilot and Wedge just sorta fell into protective mode.

Biggs and Wedge had the important job of flying behind Luke so they could be shot first. They and the rest of the non leaders served no other role in the trench runs.

And yet the Alderaan question was much worse. That's how bad that line was.

Can we play "Who wore it better?" Mandalorian edition...
First up, the new kid on the block, Marshal Cobb Vanth:

And then there is the original, Boba Fett, now coming to you with 7% more Fett for no extra charge:

So... who wore it better?

Not as awesome as the last 2 weeks but still a strong episode. And that final scene....! Can't wait for the finale and then we have the agonizing wait for the 3rd season.
