NBA 2019-2020 Season

It's only preseason, but the Lakers chemistry is looking good as they dominate the Warriors. Even Blight Howard appears to be fitting in.

What do people think of Morey's tweet?

Part of me thinks the NBA should fully support him and the message, but then they completely lose China. That would be hard. And I do think the games there serve a purpose to keep cultural exchanges open. I really don't know where they go from here. Bowing to pressure and firing Morey would look really, really bad here. I'm not sure anything less will keep the NBA in China though.

They can and probably will encourage Morey to be more careful with his tweets, but they have to back him - at least, they can't discipline him or punish him for the tweets. If they do: (1) they are huge assholes; and (2) they will be putting themselves in the position of policing political opinions on behalf of the Chinese government. That's not a tenable long-term position.

And good for Morey.

He tweeted support for the protestors in Hong Kong.

I'm surprised no one was able to screen cap the tweet before it was taken down.

Football is dead to me. The World Series is who cares. BUT THE NBA IS ON, BABY! Lakers start tonight against the much improved Clippers. It's sweet that the Lakers get an extra "home" game every time they visit the Clips. I even got a bet down in Vegas for the Lakers to win it all.

You and practically everyone else, apparently.
As the season tips off, more money has been bet on the Lakers to win the title than on any other team at sportsbooks around the nation. It's not even close.

Nearly 30% of the money that has been wagered on bookmaker William Hill's odds to win the title is on the Lakers -- almost three times as much as the team with the second-highest total.

At Caesars Sportsbook, the Lakers have attracted nearly 2.5 times as much money as has been wagered on the second-highest team, the LA Clippers.

Nearly one in every five NBA titles bets at MGM sportsbooks is on the Lakers.

Yeah, I only got 3-1 odds, but I was playing with house money.

The Bulls were bad enough to be a lottery team last year and with their pick I think they got a spot in next year's lottery. I don't expect there to be any reason to watch basketball this season even if I could (I haven't yet replaced Sling, who dropped all Fox programming).

I have a tough time seeing it as well. As good as Lebron and Davis are, I don't see them better than Lebron's Miami teams and those teams didn't dominate the league. The last time Davis played a full season was... never.

My money is on the Clippers. That team has enough offense and the defense is ridiculous.

The Lakers got sloppy and it cost them big time. To be fair, it did take a few games for LeBron to gel with his new teams. Also Kuzma is out. I like this Danny Green fellow.

Yeah Danny Green was the real bright spot last night. Also note Rondo was out so they were lacking in solid point guard play. That said, Clippers and Kawhi looked really impressive. I don't know if they really need Paul George, seems like freaking Kawhi can do it on his own lol.

My Nuggets looked good last night. It could have gotten ugly early, with Jokic getting 3 fouls in 4 minutes and not playing the rest of the first half.

But the Nuggets have crazy depth. So much so they can't find any minutes for Michael Porter Junior.

Don't look now but the Lakers are atop the Western Conference.

I saw a funny moment during the Spurs game. LeBron started to walk away from coach Vogel who was still talking to him. Anthony Davis held LeBron for a moment until Vogel was done talking. :hand:

Yeah maybe I'll be wrong, I'll be very happy to be wrong!!! They took care of the 4-1 Spurs, that was impressive, it was a good game.

If only the baseballs didn't soar out of the stadium in Denver, pitching has to count for something!

Well I was totally wrong about the Lakers, they are pretty amazing :) Thing is though I know that they are doing really good with AD, but I think this coaching team is way superior to Luke Walton. Also not having the nearly always injured Ball really helps as well. Rondo is ancient but at least he's reliable and LeBron is perfectly serviceable point guard. I know there could be some drama with Kuzma because he may decide he should start, but other than that I don't see why this team doesn't make the Finals (barring injury of course).

Was just popping back to this thread to say the same thing - LeBron has been insane, Ad is just crushing things, and the supporting cast has held up much, much better than I expected.

If LBJ and AD stay healthy, they're probably too much for Kawhi and PG to handle - just too much size, strength and skill, but the Clips probably still have a better all-around team.

Also, if my Spurs win all their remaining games, I think they have a great shot at making waves in the playoffs

When was the last time the Lakers went into Denver and Salt Lake City to win back-to-back games? Probably 2 or 3 decades ago.

Aaannnd they've come back to earth :) Injuries haven't helped.

The Christmas day NBA lineup was fun. Plenty of upsets! GS decided they were tired of losing and put Houston to bed which was nice :) Giannis clearly wasn't himself, I hope they can do something about his back.

I know it probably pains the players to have to play instead of having Christmas with their families but I will say I really enjoy watching the games during the day. My 'kid' is up in Seattle and my parents have passed away so Christmas is not what it used to be and the NBa games are something I really look forward to.

Nuggets had a nice 7-game winning streak (that included beating the Lakers by 24 points)...and then they decided not to show up for the Christmas game at home against the 2nd-worst team in the West.

Yeah I was like 'gee I sure with the Nuggets played like this when we played them!!!' But teams get up for the Lakers.

The Lakers showed me something last night. Playing the excellent second place Nuggets in Denver they were down by 13 early, only to come roaring back and take a 6 point half time lead. Then they were down by 6 late in the fourth, but managed to tie it up with 23 seconds left. LeBron got an open mid range jumper for the win...and missed. It would have been so easy at several points to roll over and relax for the all star break, but they gritted it out in OT to take a 4 game lead in the West. Barring injury they will be very tough in the playoffs.

It was a disappointing OT loss for the Nuggets. They definitely had a few good comeback stretches, but they shouldn't have had to come back like that if they hadn't pissed away every lead they had.

They need to stop giving the ball to Harris at the 3-point line. Dude can't hit the broad side of a barn.

Best All Star fourth quarter EVAH!!! That was so much fun to watch. If you missed it go watch it on YouTube :). I honestly hope they start experimenting with an untimed fourth quarter in the G league, so much more intense than watching players foul each other (which only works 1% of the time anyway).

Yeah, that was a great 4th quarter (I didn't see the first three quarters, but I assume it wasn't as intense). Watching arguably the best 10 players in the world really playing against each other was incredibly fun to watch. Hopefully they keep that format for future All-Star games.

The dunk contest the night before was also pretty spectacular. I have generally been pretty bored dunk contests lately, but some of the dunks on Saturday were ones I had never seen before. And jumping over 7'5" Tako Falls. Both of the finalists were spectacular and really they should have ended as co-champions; it's a shame Dwayne Wade put the fix in for the Miami player.

Except he was only 1 of the 3 9s for Gordon.

Yes, but apparently the judges had all agreed to give Gordon the same score as Jones (a 48). Wade was supposed to give Gordon a 10, but instead gave him a 9. You can see some of the judges' reaction to Wade when they (and he) realized what he had done:

And while small ball seemed to work for the Rockets at first, seems like the league has figured it out. And there's speculation that Harden is overtaxed. Oh well the Lakers play Houston on TNT on Thursday, they beat us last game so we'll see where we are then. Looking forward to the game.
