Injured foot that kept me idle for a week is mostly healed and the weather has finally turned nice. I need to spend my exercise time thru this weekend putting in my garden; after that, I should be able to rack up some miles.

There needs to be a 'Lockdown 2020 Weight Gain Thread.'

The past couple of months have done me no favors.

My doctor complimented me on losing 10 lbs over last year; keeping that off is an accomplishment. I guess a lot of people are gaining the "covid 19 lbs". For myself, I still hope to lose 10 more this summer.

I think since late last year Ive gained 20 lbs. I dont weigh. Wanted to try and change that starting in Jan but have just now started watching what i ate. Trying to fill up on canned stuff where the entire can has 100 cal. I think for the last two days my total cal per day is like 300.

At the doc today I weighed 217. Thats the most Ive ever weighed. At my highest before this in my life I was 214. My normal seems to hover at 191 - 195 but thats too much. I should weigh 185 and around last Sept 2019 I was 187. I loved it. But I just keep eating. A few days recently Ive limited myself to less than 500 calories a day and Im trying harder. I meant to start in Jan but didn't.

I'm still updating weekly-ish to record my mileage. Losing a few pounds would be nice, but with the world going to hell it's not on my radar right now.

Sorry that I'm jumping in late but for the first time in... well, forever, I feel that I'm finally in control of my weight. In 2016, I hit my ultimate low point - or high (weight) - clocking in at 196lbs. I was dealing with a serious 'women's issue' that eventually led to me undergoing a total hysterectomy in December 2016 at the age of 39 years. With that issue finally out of the way, I started concentrating on improving my health, as I have been overweight my entire life. I had developed high blood pressure, felt low in energy, wasn't happy in my job, felt crabby etc...

While trying the standard "eat less, exercise more", I stumbled across an online Intermittent Fasting community build around Gin Stephens, author of "Delay, Don't deny". I read the book, joined the community and started Intermittent Fasting. I know that many people think it is crazy and that IF is basically a fancy synonym for eating disorder so I don't really talk about IF-ing unless people ask because it has been and continues to be very effective for me. I'm 5'2", my starting weight before IF on January 1, 2019 was 186lbs and now I'm at about 153lbs this morning. For me it is a sustainable way and still allows me the freedom to enjoy food, all the food!

Looking forward to seeing everyone's progress!

Throughout the quarantine we were going through the hassle of selling our house, and this meant we were eating out probably 3 times as much as we used to. Pretty much March through May I was eating horribly, and the only thing that kept me halfway in shape was that I was still running semi-regularly. I felt lucky that I escaped the lockdown only up 5 or 6 pounds.

Now that we're settled back down, I'm really trying to refocus on training. It's tough because the Spartan stuff I was doing through work has all been canceled due to Covid, gyms are shut down, so anything I do I have to do on my own.

To that end I created a very simple routine of pushups, squats, and situps every other day, and on alternate days I'm continuing my 10k training. I'm also trying to incorporate walking into the exercise days, just as a little added bonus. I've also settled into avoiding fast food lunches and sodas. Doesn't mean I'm a saint every day, but I'm working on "sustainable," not "perfection."

A good buddy of mine lost 45 pounds over the quarantine. I was absolutely shocked when I saw him for the first time in 3 months. And it was just simply cutting out sugar and walking every day. Amazing.

Amazingly I have lost over 20lbs during the Covid lock down. Only 40 more to go to hit "normal" for my height yay. Hadn't been under 220 in two years.

Have also gotten to my highest fitness level in 5 years almost solely due to Peloton and progressive overload traing. Climb rides are both miserable and awesome.

Three weeks ago I switched to "OMAD" (One Mean A Day). I pretty much eat normally, but once a day. It's very easy to control my caloric intake when I have to stare at it in one long sitting and my stomach complains before I finish.

Since starting, I've lost 8 pounds. I'm almost back down to what I weighed before Thanksgiving of last year when everything went to shit diet-wise and never bounced back.

Damn Covid got me. I started dieting and exercising again yesterday at 212.4 pounds. I know I must have been extremely bloated because I was down to 209.6 this morning. I would also estimate that I lost about 4 or 5 pounds of muscle since March. So the lightest I weighed this year was 200. So I'm guessing I packed on about 15 to 18 pounds of fat since March.

I feel your pain. I put on about that much between Mar 15 and May 15. May 15 I was able to start exercising again and now I'm +5lbs from my Mar 15 weight. It has not been easy.

I bought a scale!

20200814 - 152.0, 17.1%
20200821 - 152.4, 17.1% -- +0.4, scale obviously defective!
20200828 - 152.0, 17.0% -- OK, the scale seems to have regained sanity.
20200904 - 152.6, 17.2% -- Hit "pause" on running for a week and gained 10 ounces!
20200911 - 151,8, 17.0% -- ran twice, apparently reversing that trend
20200918 - 149.4, 16.5% -- stopped running... hmmm...
20200925 - 147.6, 16.0% -- still not running, I could learn to like this...

I was down to 207 flat today. So about 5 pounds in 9 days. If I can keep that rate up I'll be happy. But I know I will slow down and eventually hit a wall that will take me about 2 weeks to break through.

Wall hit. I'm currently at 206. Which is just 1 pound of weight loss in 1 and a half weeks.

Zounds, a new high for the year. At least I'm racking up miles. I get points for those, right?

A month and a half since the last update and I'm getting a bit discouraged. Despite consistent running 3+ times a week, salads for lunch 4-5 times a week, and my home gym workouts 3x a week, I've still only managed to drop 3 pounds. I know some of it is muscle as it's noticeable, but I still feel like the "dad gut" is going nowhere.

The shuttering of our employee gym has really killed my progress. Heading into the fall of 2019 I was quite literally in the best shape of my life. And while it's certainly not true that I'm starting from square one, some days it feels that way.

Initial COVID lockdown in March wasn't good to me, but I did that with my eyes open (Hey if the world is ending, I'm going to eat some fresh baked bread).

Anyways a friend of mine had been using a trainer to set up a workout at home routine and macros - he lost a bunch of weight, so I signed up as well right after my birthday in July. Lots of weight lifting, and staying inside of my macros -- I'm currently down 16 pounds since July 29 and the muscle gain is pretty good. Still got the dad gut to go, but this is the best way to eat/diet in my opinion; I'm not hungry and the weight is coming off (and my strength is increasing).

No fad diets for this guy (Keto, IF etc I found unsustainable). On my 6th week of training - and provided this lockdown continues for the foreseeable future it's easy to fit the workouts in (3-4 times a week, an hour max).

I started doing a 30-day body weight workout from BullyJuice (YouTuber). No particular reason other than I ran across him, and liked his energy and workout style. His daily workouts range from 10 to 30 minutes, so they're perfect for me to get in on the lunch break, and since they're daily, I don't get caught in having one rest day turn into two turn into three habit. He's got some 5 minute workouts that have made me sweat more than some half hour ones.

I'm supplementing this with cardio in the evenings. I was planning on running but since the family has gotten new bikes that's all I've had time for. My daughter and I went about an hour and a half last night, so we're having a blast and getting some really good exercise time in to boot.

And the last key to the puzzle of course, is diet. I've started getting a bit more aggressive on that front as well.

For the first time ever yesterday I took one of those embarrassing shirt-off body photos as my "Before" pic. I'm really interested to see if I see any noticeable difference on September 30th.
