I think some big schools biting the bullet and canceling is bound to happen when in August 10% of their team tests positive. Others will follow.

The fact that MLB can't keep games from being canceled should be the writing on the wall. No way is CFB going to be able to finish a season. It's a financial disaster for every NCAA school but it's happening whether they want it or not.

I think the NFL is on shaky ground too and they have way more control/resources than CFB has.

Sounds like a smart move by the Pac-12:
The Pac-12 is planning a mammoth loan program that would provide an escape hatch for cash-strapped athletic departments in the event the football season is canceled because of coronavirus, according to internal documents and conference sources.

Football accounts for the majority of each department’s revenue, generating in excess of $50 million dollars in ticket sales and media rights alone.

The loan program would be large enough to cover that loss for each school, if needed:

According to a series of emails obtained by the Hotline through public records requests, the loan would provide a maximum of $83 million for each university at a rate of 3.75 percent over 10 years.

Each athletic department could decide whether it wanted to participate in the program.

More like some contingency planning, as well as help to those in dire need. Remember that a number of games have already been cancelled, and that even if the currently scheduled games go on, ticket revenues are likely to be limited.

MAC cancels all fall sports, including football.

And this from Forde

Prominent industry source: "I think by the end of the week the fall sports will be postponed in all conferences."
EDIT: B10 just flinched.
The Big Ten Conference announced today, based on the advice and counsel of the Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee, that, until further notice, all institutions will remain in the first two days of the acclimatization period in football (i.e., helmets shall be the only piece of protective equipment student-athletes may wear) as we continue to transition prudently through preseason practice. All other fall sports will continue to work locally with team physicians and athletic trainers to adjust practices to the appropriate level of activity, as necessary, based on current medical protocols.

Each new phase of activity provides new intelligence and experience and allows us to evaluate the implementation of our Conference and institutional medical protocols in real-time. In order to make the right health and safety decisions for our student-athletes, we believe it is best to continue in the appropriate phase of activity referenced above while we digest and share information from each campus to ensure we are moving forward cautiously.

We understand there are many questions regarding how this impacts schedules, as well as the feasibility of proceeding forward with the season at all. As we have consistently stated, we will continue to evaluate daily, while relying on our medical experts, to make the best decisions possible for the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes.

And we're done. :(
See you later, college football.

The Big Ten has voted to cancel the 2020 college football season in a historic move that stems from concerns related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, multiple people with knowledge of the decision confirmed to the Free Press.

The sources requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the decision. A formal announcement is expected to Tuesday, the sources said.

The presidents voted, 12-2, Sunday to end the fall sports in the conference. Michigan and Michigan State — which both has physicians as presidents — voted to end the season, sources said. Only Nebraska and Iowa voted to play, Dan Patrick said on his radio show Monday.

But will eventually they will decide to cancel as well.

First of all, that's peak Jimmy Harbaugh right there. That could have been written by a bot forced to watch 1000 hours of him speaking.

Second, apparently it's not so fast:

Third, my take on this whole fiasco is that if they play, I'll watch the games. If they don't, I'll figure out something else to do with the 3.5 hours or so a week I'd be glued to a Michigan game.

"College football cancelling the season is all a stunt by liberal universities to hurt Trump's re-election chances" is an actual argument I heard today.

Rumors are the SEC will play even if nobody else does.
It's 109 first team All-Americans.
It's a college football record 61 bowl appearances.
It's 34 bowl victories.
It's 24 Southeastern Conference Championships.
It's 15 National Championships.

At some places they play football. At Alabama we live it.

Pac12 is officially done. I think the B10 is still evaluating, but are expected to announce today.

Source: #Pac12 has canceled fb this fall. Vote was unanimous. All athletic competition shut down until at least Jan 1, 2021
Sucks, but I fully agree with the decision.

ND Insider
Two more Notre Dame football players have tested positive for COVID-19, the program announced Wednesday.

Before the Irish took the field for Wednesday’s first practice of preseason camp, both players were isolated. One was mildly symptomatic. The other was asymptomatic. Notre Dame also quarantined seven other asymptomatic players as a result of contact tracing.

LSU down to four offensive linemen after COVID-19 infections and quarantines.

What happens when this same scenario plays out in week 4 of the season and across multiple teams?

In light of the Pac12 Network furloughing 88 employees yesterday (while commish Larry Scott took a minor pay cut), these numbers are staggering. As much as I appreciate him for giving Utah the chance to play with the big boys, he absolutely needs to go.

From 2018 990 tax returns

Occupancy expenses

ACC $176,894
B1G $916,429
Big 12 $173,711
SEC $312,225
----
Total: $1,579,259

Pac-12 $8,091,386
