RIP Ian Holm
Dead at 88
My first experience with Holm was Alien and that was a hell of an introduction. The way he played Ash was so understated and awesome. Such a great actor.

Re: RIP Ian Holm
He had a gift for taking minor roles and making them completely memorable. I'm thinking of Time Bandits, Brazil, and even The Fifth Element, but there are so many more.
Much prefer my Nazis Nuremberged.

Re: RIP Ian Holm
Well duh on me. I love the movies he has done like Alien, Time Bandits, and The Fifth Element so when I saw he was Bilbo I knew he looked familiar but for some reason I just never connected him to the other roles. I think it was because they had him appear small as a Hobbit and my brain somehow said it wasn't him normal sized in the rest lol. And I just saw T5E on tv the other day again. Doh!
RIP.
RIP.

RIP indeed. One of those individuals who was such a natural that he made it look easy.
Although he was fantasic in all the movies mentioned, if you ever get a chance to see a recorded version of him in King Lear, see it. Outstanding.
Just about as good as Ian Mckellan in RIchard III (the 1995 movie)
And I do not like Shakespeare at all.

Lots of great roles, and somehow still underrated.

I never realized he was that old. I thought he was younger than me.

This. I recognized the name instantly. And recognized him from the roles. But, like Dae, somehow I never connected up all his roles.
While likely not as acclaimed as some of his roles, I do love his work in The Fifth Element. Possibly because I've seen the movie a LOT.

Because he was always, "hey it's that dude. I like him. I recognize him." (Gotta admit I never knew his name or that he wasn't all that young until LotR... and now nearly 20 years later late 60s doesn't seem all that old any more. )

Didn't remember him in that. I loath Shakespeare. I just dont like its old wording. But I rented that movie in the 90s and loved it. It turned me on to more of his work and Branagh.hentzau wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 1:35 pm This is one of my favorite Ian Holm scenes, at the end of Henry V.

Re: RIP Ian Holm
One of my favorite movies of all time. I saw it in the theater with one of my high school English teachers (we kept in touch, this was long after high school). Some friends from his class were also there, including my late friend Don. For several years toward the end of his life, Don and I would celebrate St. Crispian's Day, usually with booze and booze related foods (Crispians Apple Cider and beer cheese soup were regulars) and we'd watch this movie. And play a board game or two, the last years of his life, we generally played Dominion.hentzau wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 1:35 pm This is one of my favorite Ian Holm scenes, at the end of Henry V.

Re: RIP Ian Holm
Dae just dismissed all of Shakespeare for its "old wording." And Jeff V loves something. Where am I?
I'm glad Ian Holm brought us together on something.
Also, let's not forget Mr. Kurtzmann.
