RIP Carl Reiner

Post by McNutt »

Dead at 98.

He had a hell of a run. The Jerk was the first movie of his I ever saw and I loved it. He was a true legend.

That really stinks.

The Dick Van Dyke show was a groundbreaking in TV comedy and still holds up today. And his guest appearances on it were always a treat.

98, a really good run. The Jerk was really funny, you don't see much in reruns these days though.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

One of the greats. I remember reading an article recently about Reiner and Mel Brooks having "movie nights" once a week at Reiner's place. I would've loved to have been a fly on that wall.

I rewatched the Jerk recently...thought the humor hadn't aged well. But I'm a heretic and don't think Blazing Saddles is very funny any more either.

But DVD? That show is comedy gold.

You are not alone. Although I only saw it later in life and so never thought it was funny.

RIP Allen Brady. My kids and I have been watching the Dick van Dyke show - only a few more episodes left. It is quite entertaining, if predictable.

Him and Mel Brooks ran the 60s and 70s. A great comedian.

Ah, crap. One of my favorite celebrity stories was the time Reiner held Mel Brooks out a window by his ankles at The Palmer House in Chicago.

Sid Caesar did the holding, not Carl.

Oops, you're right. I knew it was one of Brook's old cronies. :D

My wife and I just watched The Russians are Coming! The Russians are Coming! to remember Carl.

Add me to the list of people who think that the Dick Van Dyke show was a masterpiece that is still hilarious today.
