Bummer. I wasn't a fan in the true sense. I didn't own any of his albums. And I'm not familiar with most of his music. But I did really like the few that I was familiar with.

Back around '88 or '89 when I was a violinist in high school, he came to Reno. He gave out free tickets to all the high school orchestra members, so my father and I got to see him in concert. He had a lot of great songs (I love Legend of Wooley Swamp.)

Heard that song so much in my life that Ive been actively changing the station when it comes on for the last 25 years. Nothing against Charlie. I just wore that song out. He has looked very old to me eyes for at least 25 years. Good run and seemed to have a fun life. RIP

Given the radio stations I listen too, he's never been anything but a one-hit wonder, but I never turned off the song when I heard it. RIP.
