You will not have to hear Pierre McGuire as an NBC talking head anymore.

The Senators announced early Monday that McGuire, 59, has been hired as a senior vice president of player development. The former NBC hockey analyst, whose run with the network ended this month after 15 years, will work closely with general manager Pierre Dorion and team owner Eugene Melnyk.

The TV rights move on to ESPN and Turner Sports:

Both the ESPN and Turner deals are for seven years and will expire after the 2027-28 season.

ESPN has the upper hand and might be considered the "primary" broadcast partner in this arrangement because ABC will air four of the next seven Stanley Cup Finals every other year, beginning in 2022.

Turner will broadcast the three Stanley Cup Final in the years between.

Before the Cup Final, the two networks will split the first two rounds of the playoffs and the conference finals.

Twenty-five regular-season games will air on either ESPN or ABC, while an additional 75 games will stream on ESPN+ and Hulu. Every out-of-market game previously available through NHL.TV will be on ESPN+, which will replace NHL.TV.

The NHL announced plans during Monday's general manager meeting to have almost everything back to normal for the 2021-22 campaign.

The league is planning for a full 82-game season. The schedule, which will be released before the start of the NHL draft on July 23, is currently being drawn up in two forms: one that includes an Olympic break and one that doesn't. The league and IOC are still working on an agreement.

Fully vaccinated players will be allowed to return to pre-COVID-19 conditions. That means those players can travel without protocols and work out on and off the ice without being tested for COVID-19 or group size limitations. Those changes are contingent on North American vaccination rates continuing to rise and the Canadian federal government loosening travel restrictions.

The league will also return to its pre-2020-21 alignment with the Metropolitan and Atlantic Divisions in the Eastern Conference and the Central and Pacific Divisions making up the Western Conference. Each team will play every other team at least twice.

With the Seattle Kraken joining the league, the Arizona Coyotes will move from the Pacific to the Central as planned.

Nashville Predators goaltender and franchise icon Pekka Rinne announced his retirement from the NHL today following a decorated 15-year career.

Rinne, 38 (11/3/82), retired after spending his entire 683-game NHL career with the Predators. He is etched in Nashville's record books as the franchise leader in nearly every goaltending category, including games played, wins (369), goals-against average (2.43), total TOI (39,413:29), shutouts (60) and saves (17,627), and in NHL history, he sits 19th in shutouts and tied for 19th in victories. He finished his career with a record of 369-213-75.

In addition to topping numerous Predators records, the Kempele, Finland, native retired as one of the best hockey players the country has ever produced, owning the most games played, wins and shutouts by a Finnish-born goaltender in NHL history.

I get neither ESPN nor Turner on my basic Xfinity cable package. I'm trying to figure out a way to access the NHL games that will be televised.

I plan to add the Disney+ bundle that will include ESPN+. I'm assuming any games that are on ESPN will be available on ESPN+? I didn't get that impression from Isgrimnur's post, but I may be interpreting that wrong...

I don't have NHL.TV so I'm happy that ESPN+ will be showing those games. So I just need to figure out the Turner part and if it's worth adding another app to my ever expanding list of streaming services.

From what I'm reading, HBO Max will not be streaming the Turner games this year.

Games that air on ESPN or ESPN2 typically don't air on ESPN+.

Some games are listed as ESPN/ESPN+ while others are listed as ESPN only. All ABC games will be on ESPN+ as well.
