I still don't understand how Vitter managed to stay in office after kicking it with escorts, yet Weiner is forced to resign after sending some naughty tweets. Doesn't illegal trump stupid?

Well, Vitter is a Republican. Maybe the scale is different. He didn't try to solicit anyone in the shitter, seek out trannies on Craigslist, perv on underaged Congressional pages, or get his parents to pay off his lover's family. Just asking hookers to engage in diaper-play is relatively well-adjusted for Republicans.

Also, Vitter immediately came out when the connection surfaced and issued a statement acknowledging his mistakes and indicating it was something his wife already knew of. Weiner not only initially denied it but then allegedly engaged in behind the scenes tactics to try and cover it up.

While his activities were seemingly less serious than frequenting call girls, when the spotlight hit, he came off like like a shifty bastard. A shifty bastard with the manscaped body of an amateur weightlifter, but shifty nonetheless.

EDIT: There was also a significant amount of time between what Vitter did and when it came to light. If the time-tables were similar, it wouldn't surprise me if he was pressured into resigning.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

Yep. One of the few scandals involving Democrats and you guys have turned it into a Republican bashing party.

It's 109 first team All-Americans.
It's a college football record 61 bowl appearances.
It's 34 bowl victories.
It's 24 Southeastern Conference Championships.
It's 15 National Championships.

Stupid + lying preposterously to the media, his constituents and especially his colleagues (and, worse still, initially attempting to dupe his fellow Democrats into defending his laughably ludicrous BS) will always trump mere hooker shenanigans. No one wanted anything to do with Weiner once the truth was out, because he squandered whatever goodwill he had with his Democratic colleagues with his mendacity.

Separating:
Top Hillary Clinton adviser Huma Abedin on Monday announced that she has decided to separate from her husband, Anthony Weiner, the former congressman who has been repeatedly caught sexting with other women.

"After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband," Abedin said in a statement. "Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy."

The announcement comes after the New York Post reported on Weiner's latest sexually explicit messages with another woman. Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 after mistakenly tweeting an explicit image of himself intended as a direct message.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

This would be the same son who can apparently be seen sleeping in bed next to his dad in one of the pictures?

I think we can speculate on how she feels. He's been doing this crap for ages. And she only just filed for separation. I'd say it's a safe bet that he 'crossed the line' when he included their son in the picture. My bet is that she is pretty damn furious.

Meh, Hillary has stood by her man while he did far worse.

Completely irrelevant. And not pertinent to the discussion at all. But thanks for playing. I guess.

This is only two degrees of separation from Hillary, so I'm only surprised that it took this long for Rip to post this.

Which is about 2 degrees less than what O'Bannon's wife said he said about Jews in some divorce filing, because we all know that no one lies to get what they want in divorce proceedings.

I'm just trying to decide on whether to bet on Weiner coming out with dirt on the Clintons or whether he ends up committing "suicide".

That was probably her first reaction, but she's smart enough that it quickly morphed to glee as she realized that, with that one picture, he just vaporized any custody case he might try to make.

I know that facts aren't important to you but let's consider some:

1) The State Department was one of 9 different govt agencies that had to sign off on this deal. Clinton had one vote but even she didn't directly exercise it. An assistant secretary of state did, and he never consulted with her - he had a working group looking at it under him. He effectively voted in her place.

2) All any one of the 9 voting members/agencies could have done was force the deal to go to the president if any had opposed. But none did, including the State Department. And in the end, only the president could veto the transaction.

3) In addition, another govt agency had to approve licenses for the sale. So in the end, there were a lot hands in this deal and none of them voted against it.

3) So Russia buys a uranium company in the US. Big deal. They can't ship it all out of the country except whenever they sell uranium to a commercial customer. The mines are still here. It's about as useful to Russia as all those investments western oil companies made in Russia after which the Russians forced many of them out.

Here's what being in the tank for Russia looks like, and it doesn't even need Manafort.

Trump Foreign Policy Adviser Traveled To Russia Prior To Changes In GOP Platform
Just days before Republicans adopted a new, more Russia-friendly plank into their party platform, one of Donald Trump’s top advisers visited Moscow in July to deliver speeches criticizing decades of U.S. foreign policy.

Global energy investor Carter Page joined Trump’s team in March. Since then, Page has criticized U.S.-Russia policy in a number of public speeches, and repeatedly expressed his hope that a closer relationship between the two nations might be possible with Trump in the White House.

“Washington and other Western capitals have impeded potential progress through their often hypocritical focus on ideas such as democratization, inequality, corruption, and regime change,” Page said last month during a commencement speech at a Moscow economics graduate school.

Page also suggested the United States should ease economic sanctions imposed on Russia following its 2014 incursion into Ukraine and Crimea, which was condemned in an overwhelming vote in the United Nations. In exchange for sanctions relief, Page said, American companies might be invited to partner with Russian firms to exploit Russia’s oil and gas fields.

In the end the fact is that people who profited from that deal gave nearly $2.5M to the Clinton Foundation and it wasn't disclosed, despite promises that such donations would be reported.

You can choose to believe they gave that money out of charity but I choose to believe the more plausible that they expected something in return and got it.
