This came up a few years ago and IIRC my understanding is that the reasoning is that if your the sitting President and needed some advice, the number of people who've been in a similar situation is pretty small, so being able to turn to the person that had the job before you is deemed helpful. To that end keeping the previous President somewhat informed about the state of affairs is likewise helpful. I think up until now, concerns over a former President in regards to safeguarding information and maintaining national security wasn't at issue. How times have changed.

I wonder if the president-reject extended that courtesy to Obama. We know that trump himself didn't pay attention to briefings, so maybe he figured Obama would be just as bored and uninterested.

President Biden calling Trump for advice is hilarious to me. The response would always just be “You know I had more people at my inauguration than Obama, right?”

I can imagine Biden prank-calling Trump for advice while Obama, Bush, and both Clintons stand around stifling their laughter.

"Listen, Donald, I'd really like to hear your thoughts on the Freedonia situation. There's a bunch of Marxists running the place!"

Yo Stimpy, here is a comprehensive article on the idiotic school renaming frenzy in San Francisco. Yes Virginia, there are also crazy excesses on the Left.

New Yorker article
Washington’s name was struck because he held slaves, Lincoln’s because of his policies toward Native Americans. Senator Dianne Feinstein’s name will be removed from a school, owing to the decision, when she was San Francisco’s mayor, in the nineteen-eighties, to replace a Confederate flag that was part of a Civic Center display and had been taken down by a protester. (A spokesperson for Feinstein said that the city’s parks department replaced the flag “on its own accord.” She later had it replaced with a Union flag.) Some of the committee’s recommendations have received more criticism than others: Paul Revere Elementary School will be renamed because of his role in the Penobscot Expedition of 1779, an assault on a British fort that the committee claimed, incorrectly, was intended to colonize the Penobscot people.
Effing Dianne Feinstein doesn't pass scrutiny.

Just like the one guy in the Lincoln Project. Although their leaders actually did speak out against him. So I'm not sure why you tried to associate his actions with the entire Lincoln Project by calling out it in your post instead of the one man who did those horrible things. :?
Because we all know when one person does something bad, it reflects on all those around him who may have supported him at one point in time......
It does if they don’t call him out on it, yes. Thanks for the addendum. I had forgot to mention that. In light of the last four years, it’s an important and damning addendum.
According to this addendum, they knew about it many months before it came to light and did nothing about it. So yeah........damning addendum......

As a big fan of The Philadelphia Story “The time to make up your mind about people, is never.” While people are still alive, there is always an opportunity for redemption, IMHO. He never did, in my book, but I'd have been happier if he had redeemed himself before dying and take no joy in that failure. RIP Goodbye, Rush Limbaugh.

(edited RIP to Goodbye). Maybe he'll get another shot at redemption somewhere. I remember Benny in Niven/Pournelle's Inferno (fun SF novel about a dead SF novelist trying to escape Dante's Inferno). IMHO, Limbaugh's solidly frozen in the Ninth Circle off Hell right now.

That's correct. And after being given a terminal cancer diagnosis, he leaned into MAGA as hard as he could and continued his pattern until his final moments.

He died having seen Trump voted out of office. I'll end it there.

Just Wow! Your hypocrisy is stunning. If a famous person from the left died and some of us posted attack trash like this, you'd be outraged. I can hear it now, "He hasn't even been dead for 1 day and you're attacking him! Have you no shame? Can't you keep your politics out of it? Let his family at least bury him first, etc., etc., etc."

It was recommended to me in another thread that I should stop listening to certain media outlets that support conservative thinking. I'm going to suggest that all of you need to stop listening to the garbage spewed by the main stream media and actually consider listening to the other side too!

I don't agree with everything Rush ever said. That is true of any conservative host or politician. He had his (sometimes major) flaws. He was not a perfect person. But, I guess many of you must be based on your personal attacks on him.

Here's what I wrote on another site as a proper RIP notice.

"Rush died yesterday. :(

He'd been fighting lung cancer for awhile now. The statement that his wife gave at the beginning of his show was excellent. I don't know how she kept from crying.

I heard him referred to yesterday as the Babe Ruth of broadcasting. I couldn't agree more. He was the greatest broadcaster of all time, like Ruth, he changed forever the way the game was played.

He made no bones about being a biased speaker for the conservative cause. He was not ashamed to be so.

He will be sorely missed."

I'm having trouble coming up with a comparable figure on the left. Bill Maher, I guess, at times? He's about 1/10 as objectionable as Limbaugh. Maybe Louis Farrakhan?

I won't shed any tears when we lose either of them.
