Westboro coming to town
To Tuscaloosa
Some nonsense about reminding Tuscaloosa of the wrath that God brought down upon them two years ago in the Tuscaloosa tornado.
Lots of people upset and planning to come out there to counter them. Hope they don't get their asses beaten down by a bunch of Alabama students, etc.

It's 109 first team All-Americans.
It's a college football record 61 bowl appearances.
It's 34 bowl victories.
It's 24 Southeastern Conference Championships.
It's 15 National Championships.
At some places they play football. At Alabama we live it.

Those Yahoos.
At this point, being singled out by Westboro is the surest sign that you're doing something right!

More publicity for the fools. I almost wish someone would simply kill them all. I hate to say that. And not use a gun..use baseball bats. Lets see our gov ban those.
But in the real world I wish they were just totally ignore. I mean no press, no anti crowds, no car horn honks, not even a single stare at them. They should fall through the cracks and be invisible to the country.
I feel sorry for those that have to put up with them.

Re: Westboro coming to town
I totally agree.
PLEASE don't let the stupid college aged guys (was stupid myself back then) do anything to incite violence against them.
I'm all for them getting their asses kicked, but unfortunately it would just give them press and attention.

Chik-fil-A and Mike Huckabee should just announce that 5/18/13 is Chik-fil-A Appreciation Day. That will make national news again and no one will notice the Wesboro bigots.

wot?
To be fair, adolescent power fantasy tripe is way easier to write than absurd existential horror, and every community has got to start somewhere... right?
Unless one loses a precious thing, he will never know its true value. A little light finally scratches the darkness; it lets the exhausted one face his shattered dream and realize his path cannot be walked. Can man live happily without embracing his wounded heart?

I've noticed that in a lot of cases recently they've announced they'll be somewhere and then cancel, presumably because there will be a large group organized against them. This happened with one of the Boston bombing funerals.

It costs nothing and keeps them in the news.Teggy wrote:I've noticed that in a lot of cases recently they've announced they'll be somewhere and then cancel, presumably because there will be a large group organized against them. This happened with one of the Boston bombing funerals.

I think a lot of folks are under the mistaken impression that their presence is the statement. That's incorrect. Their intentions are their statement these days.

In March, the Westboro Baptist Church called for the execution of my boss.

To be fair, if sometimes wishing you could execute your boss was illegal, most of us would be doing hard time right now.Fireball1244 wrote:In March, the Westboro Baptist Church called for the execution of my boss.

I just laugh at their antics now. They only have the power we give them and the more comical they become, the more they will be marginalized.

We had to report it to Capitol Police, but they said these things happen all the time with WBC.hepcat wrote:To be fair, if sometimes wishing you could execute your boss was illegal, most of us would be doing hard time right now.Fireball1244 wrote:In March, the Westboro Baptist Church called for the execution of my boss.

Ah. So death threats are legal just as long as you make enough of them.Fireball1244 wrote:We had to report it to Capitol Police, but they said these things happen all the time with WBC.hepcat wrote:To be fair, if sometimes wishing you could execute your boss was illegal, most of us would be doing hard time right now.Fireball1244 wrote:In March, the Westboro Baptist Church called for the execution of my boss.

1) I'm pretty sure no one cares if you threaten to kill a member of Congress.stimpy wrote:Ah. 2) They didn't say they would kill him, just that the government should kill him.

Welp, they came to town. Nobody got the crap beat out of them. This is how Tuscaloosa responded:
This group of bikers made lazy circles around them all day, drowning out their speakers and megaphones. Couldn't even hear yourself talk.
And of course the contingent of counter protesters in the background:

And totally unrelated other than it was adjacent to this story on AL.com and because I still think she's face melting hot, the Alabama quarterback's girlfriend Katherine Webb as she introduced Tom Petty at a local event:

It was also not lost upon me that one of the signs in that photo reads: "Don't feed the trolls"
Holding a counter protest and the associated media coverage was doing just that...
