if I had to guess, I'd say that picture was taken in London.

tells:
* Red Hat that isn't MAGA.
* Blue Hat (!?) , also logo free.
* The distinctive day-glow yellow-green of their police on the side of the picture.
* The building in the background also looked unlikely in the states.
* something something British teeth...
I also have no real clue who Nigel Farage is (sounded familiar, looked it up, and is that really him? teeth comparison fails)
In any case, for an image that should be making fun of white men in America, I'd like to feel like the people were American.
It's a great picture for white-rage-UK.

Re: Pictures and Videos for R&P
This is my main problem with the tweet. Angry white men, no context, comedic caption.
They could be angry and on the street because their steel factory just shut down, because their pub ran out of beer, because the stampeders won the Grey Cup, because their tattoo artist isn't very good.
It could literally be anything, including a bunch of white supremacists angry that other races exist. Without following up, I have no idea what the picture and caption are about. And that's fine, I don't always need to be spoon fed my clever one liners, but in this case I'm just like "black friday/white friday. Ok, that's sort of funny" and I feel less motivation to find out what's going on than I do about writing about the fact that I don't know what's going on.

Sorry to mislead--I don't think that's really Farage, just someone who looks like him.
But if I had to guess, I'd imagine that the bloke in the pic says out loud what Farage only says in private.

The fact that they're all dressed like casuals (and look old enough to be from some old firm or other) is what did it for me. I mean those outfits are right out of some firm mocumentary.

Re: Pictures and Videos for R&P
What does #lesswenotforget mean?
"something" lest we forget = "something " so we don't forget or "something" to prevent us from forgetting or "something" in case we forget
"something" less we not forget = "something" so we forget? Or "something" to prevent us from remembering or "something" in case we don't forget?
Is this one of those "flammable" vs "inflammable" situations?
Seriously, help me out here.

It's a corruption of lest we forget.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Right.
The corruption being "lesswenotforget". Doesn't the "not" in there make the phrase mean the opposite of the original?

No sweat.
It just jumped off the page and was a head scratcher. The twitter account holder may have taken too many blows to the head in any case. He's like a slightly more coherent Tyson.

Re: Pictures and Videos for R&P
See, I'm not sure, because the original "less we forget" can be read as "so we do NOT forget" or "to prevent forgetting", so it's almost like the original should contain the NOT as well.
Anyway, it doesn't matter. I just like to be able to understand what someone or something is saying, and I can't be sure what they are saying, although I can certainly guess with a reasonable chance of success, I suppose.

Re: Pictures and Videos for R&P
Sure, and you would think that, but I read a little and the meaning is not as clear as you suggest. It has multiple interpretations, including the ones I put up. Yours is valid too. They all convey the same idea, which is "so we don't forget".
Your "would" is appropriate, but so is removing it like so "or else we forget" which has the same meaning as "so we don't forget" or "in order to prevent us from forgetting". "would" in your example implies that we are guaranteed to forget unless the action is taken. The expression can also be read as "do this otherwise we might forget". "would" implies it will absolutely happen vs "might" suggests that the possibility of forgetting exists, but isn't guaranteed.
Even more fucked up is that the action taken is "remembering", so the expression is something like "remember lest we forget" or "pay respects lest we forget" or "let's make sure we take the action of remembering otherwise we might forget".
How's that for pedantic, Jaymann?
Damn straight.
edit: My edits were not to change from "less" to "lest". I got it right in this post for some reason.

"Less we forget" isn't a thing other than a malapropism.

As you said, "less" is not a form of "lest" or vice versa. They are not related in any form that I could find.

Re: Pictures and Videos for R&P
no, I don't think that is technically correct at all. If we exchange the word "remember" for the "not forget", then that phrase is just "the less we remember"
Yep, the phrase is certainly 'lest', but Mick up there is the one who first seed our heads with #lesswenotforget. (It wasn't you... but we failed to correct Mick, cause we were focused on the 'not forget')

Yeah, it's pretty much time to give up on words having meanings.
Just accept that a word means whatever random shit the user thinks it means.
Which should make communication a breeze, amirite? After all it's those being pedantic about word meanings that are the real problem.
