Aaron Coleman, a 19-year-old who admitted to blackmail, revenge porn, and bullying, has won his primary race for the Kansas House of Representatives.

Coleman is currently running unopposed as a Democrat for the state's November election, according to KSHB Kansas City.

Will we allow a person's past to shadow them for the rest of their lives? December was *months* ago!

(I've heard that the local Dems are running a write-in campaign to defeat this guy. I hope they do it right.)

Glenn Greenwald should be ashamed of himself for giving Coleman a platform to air his views via The Intercept, too.

Greenwald went way past shame years ago. His principles fell apart only a little after Snowden...maybe it all got to his head but he has been off the rails for awhile.

You're right. He's still advocating for a pardon for Snowden (as is Tulsi Gabbard) and he's trashing Jeffrey Goldberg's piece on Trump in The Atlantic, too.

I got that mailer yesterday that Colorado is suing USPS over.I guess they sent it out to everyone nationwide? Absentee/mail-in voting is only allowed in a select few cases in SC, so it's not super applicable here.

I received it yesterday, too (I'm in CO). In general it's good advice, but I can see Colorado's viewpoint that it's misleading for us and could cause some folks to think they are out of luck and/or to mail their ballot back in rather than dropping off close to the election.

WISTV wrote: By Emily Scarlett | September 15, 2020 at 8:25 AM EDT - Updated September 15 at 8:25 AM
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The South Carolina House of Representatives will return to the State House for the first time in several weeks, Tuesday, Sept. 15 after the legislative session was interrupted by the pandemic.

House Majority Leader Gary Simrill spoke with WIS-TV and helped to break down what’s on the agenda. He says, members of the SC House of Representatives will likely take up the bill passed by the Senate earlier this month regarding absentee voting ahead of Election Day, Nov. 3.

State senators unanimously passed a bill which would allow all South Carolina registered voters to vote absentee for the upcoming elections because of the pandemic. Representative Simrill is hopeful the House will also move forward with the bill to ensure voters are safe.

He said the legislation will resemble, “what we did back in May prior to the June primaries dealing with COVID-19 so you can vote absentee for any reason.”

Representative Simrill adding the importance of avoiding any delay in election results.

“The fact that the outer envelopes for absentee balloting normally aren’t opened early, the fact that there will be so many more people voting absentee this year due to COVID and other reasons – that those outer envelopes would be opened two days prior,” said the representative from Rock Hill.

...

This latest two-year legislative session was supposed to end in May but after disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, lawmakers agreed to return in September. Tuesday is the start of a scheduled two-week special session, which will also be one of the last opportunities for SC lawmakers to finalize any bills still on the table including that massive education reform bill.

Headed to McMaster!
COLUMBIA, S.C. —
South Carolina lawmakers once again voted Tuesday to expand absentee voting rules for the November election.

The House concurred with the Senate bill which extends absentee voting to everyone.

The bill now heads to Gov. Henry McMaster to be signed into law. A spokesman for the governor said McMaster will sign it.

Permission? What is this "permission" that you speak of? It's pretty clear that his campaign never asks for permission.

He might already have it. Campaigns buy broad licensing deals from the standard music licensing folks. The artists might not know they are included in the bulk sales, but that is their problem, not the campaign's (beyond the bad press of the artist calling them out).

I was going to put this is Political Randomness, but that thread is busy arguing with stimpy.

I just got an email that everyone at my company is getting up to a half day PTO to vote (if you can vote in 30 minutes, please get back to work). It can be used on Election Day or any time during your local jurisdictions Early Voting. I don't recall this happening in previous elections.

Maybe if I walk to the polling place I can stretch the time. ;)

I just received the absentee ballots for myself and my son in the mail. We'll fill them out later today and mail them tomorrow. Of course, they're signature checked, and I have a consistently inconsistent signature. My handwriting has always been illegible. It's why I learned to type. We'll see how this goes.

Same here, more or less, depending on where you live:
Because voting laws and processes vary across the country, employee offerings will be tailored to provide adequate time to vote based on each state’s voting laws and requirements. This may include paid time off on Election Day, making Election Day a day without meetings or providing resources for mail-in ballots and early voting.

Comey has been trying to clear his name of shenanigans in books and editorials, and he is adamant that Trump was in the wrong at every step of the way. He's absolutely not the best ambassador for that truth, but I do think he's sincere.

Also, the Democrats on the committee (Harris, Booker, Blumenthal, Leahy, etc) can be pretty good at pushing back on GOP bullshit. This is a risk for Lindsey Graham.

I'm in the reddest of red states and I never see a spontaneous Trump rally here. Lots of Trump flags (typically mounted in the beds of pickups belching out black smoke), but I've never seen a rally.

I would guess that Trump supporters in blue or purple states feel like they need to try that much harder to get attention, hence the "pop up rallys".

Same here. I've actually been quite impressed with the school's handling of everything so far, so we're going to stick with it for now.
In rural Maine, I right now I see maybe 20 Trump tags to 1 Biden. Only two Collins tags, though. I think most people feel that declaring their love for the mancheeto is enough. Despite our rural and northern redneck-ness, there are a lot of sane people here to don't lean towards hate so easily and we're generally a middling state where an Independent has a good shot at an election. Trump only squeaked away with 1 Electoral vote from us last time, and I expect Collins is about to get tossed hard enough to bounce twice before she stops. Polls are going very poorly for her, from one of the highest rated to one of the lowest rated nationally isn't a good look on anyone.

Too Soon To Start Thinking About 2020? No, it's 2020!

Post by Carpet_pissr »

I was about to ask how anyone could actively ‘support’ Susan Collins (bumper sticker). I mean, at best, I could see people barely tolerating her. Her maddening waffling and constant wind-testing surely alienates both left and right voters, no?

And before finishing that thought, Lindsey Fucking Graham’s smarmy, oily mug appeared in my mind’s eye, and I thought “Ohhhhhh. Ok.” I’m so sorry.

So now, the question is who is worse, Collins or Graham? :). Both horrid, no-good, rampant wafflers.

Graham by a million miles. He let his friend get tossed under a bus and did nothing. He not only supports Trump, he's been an avid cheerleader. I will be overjoyed if he loses his election.
