Let's remember that Flynn hand-picked Pence and that Pence was part of the transition team and their contact with Russia that was just named as part of Mueller's released paperwork. Remember when Pence denied Russian contact during the transition back in January of 2017? Turns out, not so much.

To completely kill it:
As Meagan Flynn reported in the Washington Post Tuesday, some surmised that Scott Free was “a new figure in the Russia investigation,” while others pointed out that the name was used in the DC Comics universe for a character who takes on the superhero identity of Mister Miracle.
...
“Scot-free,” for someone who escapes without punishment or harm, preserves an old English word that has otherwise fallen out of use: “scot,” referring to a tax, especially one paid to the crown of England. Despite its resemblance to “Scot” (for someone from Scotland, which also lies at the root of the name “Scott”), the resemblance to the “scot” of “scot-free” is purely coincidental.

As Katherine Connor Martin, head of U.S. dictionaries at Oxford University Press, noted in a 2015 blog post, the old meaning of “scot” (meaning “tax”) is historically related to words in Scandinavian languages, such as the Swedish and Norwegian “skatt,” the Danish “skat” and the Icelandic “skattur.” In Old English, the word for “tax” was originally “shot,” but it changed to “scot” likely under the influence of the Scandinavian cognates that started with the “sc-” sound.

But now I'm left wondering what Cohen had to do with "taxis". Does he own a bunch? Did he used to drive them? Inquiring minds must know!!!

I think he had something to do with taxi medallions in NYC, which used to be a multi-million dollar business until Uber killed the industry.

IIRC he owned a couple of medallions. He likely paid others to actually drive the actual vehicles.

edit: sorry, not true. the story doesn't deliver. it ends with: "It's not clear what the FBI was interested in as it relates to his medallions".

It was probably related to one or more of the tax evasion charges.
In addition to his work with Trump, Cohen owned taxi medallions in Chicago and New York City worth millions of dollars.

He leased these medallions to operators, who then paid him some of their income.

From 2012 to 2016, Cohen earned over $2.4 million in income from a number of loans he had made to a taxi operator after leasing this person “certain of his Chicago taxi medallions.”

This money wasn’t disclosed to the IRS.

The Justice Department also said that Cohen hid over $1.3 million in income from a taxi operator who was leasing “certain of his New York taxi medallions.”

The New York taxi operator had paid Cohen a bonus of $870,000 in 2012 so that he could operate “certain of Cohen’s medallions.”

However, Cohen didn’t report the “substantial majority” of this bonus, the Justice Department said.

Cohen also hid almost $1 million in taxable income that he had received from this taxi operator in connection with his medallions, the department added.

He's gonna do it:
In a testy Oval Office exchange with the two top congressional Democrats, Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Chuck Schumer, President Trump made clear he would be "proud" to shut down the government in less than two weeks if he doesn't get funding for his border wall.

"I'll be the one to shut it down. I will take the mantle. And I will shut it down for border security," Trump told House and Senate Democratic leaders as Vice President Pence sat by stoically.

I thought he was a master deal maker? So... this is the one negotiating tactic he knows, and surprise surprise, he's using it.

Normally someone being dumb enough to take the blame for it up front would matter. In this case he will just deny he said it and the idiots will go along. There's zero reason for the dems to crumble on this one so I don't see how the government won't shutdown. All for a stupid wall that would accomplish pretty much nothing.
