To be fair, letting COVID run rampant has eased demand pressure by 400,000 or so lives. Healthcare solved! Legacy achieved!

Chao and McConnell are scum. They will forever have the Trump taint, no matter how they try to revise history. Damage done, fuck them both.

They may have some trump taint but they both carry plenty of their own taint as well. Horrible fucking people.

Let's all hold hands and remember that Trump's presidency was stolen from him, and we know this on the basis of someone having seen a van and someone else having seen a sticky note. A conspiracy 80 million strong ripped his future from him. Amen.

I sincerely hope Trump continues to boycott every "official" function his office normally calls for, like attending future presidential inaugurations. The man brings nothing to the table except a desire to grab attention and have tantrums.

I saw a tweet today (which must mean it's true) that the stock market under Trump underperformed that of Obama and Clinton, something like mid-70%s for the Ds to mid-60%s for Trump.

Of course the top 1% aren't just relying on the public markets, but still.

[Edit - and that wouldn't make him the worst, but given how terrible he and his governance were, I'd like to think even the 1% would want market returns outperforming those of competent leaders rather than just decent ones.]

Ah, I misread. I thought he was saying that Trump was a member of the top 1% - which I remain unconvinced of.

Really? Is sure seems to me like "the market" has just been stupid over the last four years and CNBC says the market knows its been stupid and there are trillions sitting on the sidelines because of it. Essentially Trump continued "None dare call it QE" and we just kept printing money and lowering taxes for the wealthy with no interest rates and that is why you are rich on Tesla and how kids on reddit can afford gang up and do short squeezes and penny stock pump and dumps. As Lawbeef might say: TINA. I think it has been more than just the 1% though. I would say middle/upper middle class moving to retirement have loved this. Pensions/401ks are flooded with equity. Banks have so accumulated so much money they don't want customers so they offer interest rates of nothing and are charging for more services.

First thing I could find

https://www.businessinsider.com/persona ... ket-return

Year S&P 500 annual return
2010 15.1%
2011 2.1%
2012 16%
2013 32.4%
2014 13.7%
2015 1.4%
2016 12%
2017 21.8%
2018 -4.4%
2019 31.5%
+ 2020 which was another stupid year.

And that's just the S&P. The market seemed to do better. Vanguard's total US market out did the S&P and the NASDAQ blew it out of the water.

There's no question that Trump is in the top 1%, even if he is overstating his money, which is likely. To be in the top 1% requires a little over $500k by income and over $11 million by net worth.

Trump, primarily by virtue of his inheritance, is clearly in both. Though we'll see how long he remains so with his pending financial and legal troubles.

that doesn't jive with what I read

https://siblisresearch.com/data/us-stock-market-value/

The US stock market as a whole nearly doubled in value under Trump and that is with unfathomable money sitting on the sideline and in a continued "bull run" coming off 2009/2010, rivaled only by the dot com boom

https://edition.cnn.com/2019/04/23/inve ... index.html

Even if the 1% didn't match the gains from another admin, it was still far from the worst for them. Though I would imagine it was one of the best. Historic low tax rates, historic market returns, low cost of capital, all kinds of new schemes (rise of SPACS, record IPO performance), deregulation, neutered SEC, hamstrung IRS,. nonexistent EPA...

One estimate put his total count at 30,573 verifiable lies, misdirections, and omissions over the four years he was in office. That's over 21 lies every single day he was in office. Politicians are known for being slippery and finding ways to lie about almost anything, but what he did was above and beyond.

One news site had him clocking over 50 lies a day rolling into October of last year. Jeebus. It's no wonder his supporters went insane.

The most damning thing to me was WHAT he chose to lie about. Absolutely stupid shit a child would think twice about, he'd jump on it. He seemed to really just enjoy lying.

I saw the total, but can't recall it - but I do think I remember that the American Taxpayers paid approximately $144m for just his golfing security and travel expenses.

I'm already seeing pickups with "Trump 2024" on the windshields, too. Another good reason to convict is to prevent any possibility of running for a second term, assuming Congress opts to disqualify him from trying again.

These folks really seemed to think their mighty God-Emperor was going to glide down on a beam of sunlight and save them from the vile Democrats and their horrific child-murdering, rapist ways. The reality is that their savior has absconded to his vacation home and could give two shits about them - but I do expect him to rally back once he remembers these folks can still be tapped to buy a lot of Merch with his name on it.

I fear we're going to be seeing "Trump" for years to come as a rallying cry, replacing the Confederate flag as a symbol of hate.

The Former Trump Presidency Thread

Post by Dramatist »

I was thinking yesterday about how miserable all of the anti Trump people were during his presidency because of the dread we always had about such a horrible person with that job. This made sense because he would be a horrible person and do horrible things and be so corrupt and it always felt like we were waiting for another shoe to drop.

Then I thought about his biggest fans. They felt miserable too. Not about anything real. But they thought Antifa was hiding in their closet and coming to get them. Thinking that as a nation that we were only hours away from turning into Venezuela.

Trump really united us all in misery.
