It's amazing that it's in play that Trump could wind up strengthening several of Obama's key policies and initiatives that he railed against. If this DACA framework deal goes through, he'll have taken a reversible executive policy (*hated* by his base) and transformed it into essentially permanent statutory law.

And on the ACA - unless an unlikely (though not impossible) reversal happens on repeal, just surviving uniform Republican rule makes it more likely to endure in something like its current form. Plus there are some bipartisan fixes to the law that may wind up passing (possibly including something requiring Trump to make the insurer payments that he is trying to destabilize the market with).

Breitbart is almost nothing but outrage over Trump lately.

You backed a horse that thinks the finish line can be reached by going in any direction. What did you expect? Loyalty?

p.s. Breitbart's truly is a racist piece of trash. one of their articles rails against a Superman comic in which he protects a group of immigrants from being shot by a white supremacist. They should just go ahead and merge with Stormfront so they can optimize the hate.

With approval ratings in the low 30s, you do whatever you can. I'm sure Jarvanka has encouraged him not to push that down into the 20s.

That's certainly the common wisdom, and the dregs of the right like Ann Coulter will certainly make a lot of noise over it, but a recent poll shows 68 percent of Trump's base supports protections for dreamers.
In last week’s poll, 24 percent of Republicans thought DACA recipients should be deported; this week, 20 percent think Congress should codify that policy. Two-thirds of self-identified Trump voters wanted these immigrants to be allowed to stay in last week’s survey, and 68 percent of Trump voters want Congress to pass legislation that lets them remain in the U.S. in the new poll.

It's also that the base audience for BB, Rush and the others want the furthest conservative wing of the GOP to Rule the country rather than Governing a diverse country. Trump (especially with Bannon as strategist and Priebus as Chief of Staff) bought into this, and it has left the first 8 months of his Presidency with minimal accomplishments.

With Kelly on board, Trump seems to maybe have picked up on that problem with the GOP, at least evidenced by his current strategy of bypassing McConnel/Ryan/the Freedom Caucus and their inability to get anything done in favor of Schumer and Pelosi and their ability to deliver something.

Sure. "Who is that? TSHTSHTSHTSH! You're breaking up TSHTSHTSHTSH! Why not try back in several days? TSHTSHTSH! or never..."

I might pull the same trick if I got a call from Trump.

Yea, that isn't what he said at all.
And on Thursday in Florida, before his comments aboard Air Force One about climate change, Trump said the people of Florida experienced something "the likes of which we can say really say nobody's ever seen before."

"They've never seen a category like this come in because it came in really at a five," he said.
http://www.cnn.com/2017/09/14/politics/ ... index.html

He is obviously talking about being a cat5 all the way to landfall.

Kind of kills the buzz of when he actually does say stupid shit.

If the president doesn't think he's needs to be held accountable for what he says, I can't imagine there is any reason the "press" should be.

edit: I put in some " marks after LM's question, just because it's fun.

Well, he did say those words (the pool report is from later, at the White House), but he was clearly being rhetorical to highlight the historic nature of the storm.

This is still stupid shit.
Can't he just say something plainly? What should be a simple sentence needs translation.
They've never seen a category like this come in because it came in really at a five.
This kind of word salad is typical of someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.

Also, the "never knew it existed" quote comes from the Miami Herald apparently so maybe in addition to his mushy statement he did also say it.
“I never even knew a Category 5 existed,” the president told reporters at the White House Thursday, at a reception following his return from Florida where at least 26 people have been killed by the massive storm, according to the Miami Herald.

Not that it matters that much, even his "acceptable" statement, even after RipTranslate, is still a bunch of rubbish.

The quote Amy Fiscus reported was reported by multiple sources as off the cuff remarks - hence per the pool. Amy Fiscus is only the Washington national security editor of the NY Times so I'm sure she was just making it up.

It really doesn't matter though, because she's not the source for the quote. It came from the press pool that accompanied Trump on the Florida photo-op junket.
