I will give you that one, if we throw in the births of myself and immediate family it would get over $10K.Zarathud wrote:I fully expect Rip will cost once he gets that inner asshole checked out. Or he finally gets sick.

But hey if I have to pay for my own shouldn't they pay for theirs?

If Rip wants to admit he wants off the Trump train, we should welcome it. If supporters like him are departing, then I think there may be some hope after all. I am sure I will dislike what someone like Pence might try to accomplish but at least I won't awake daily feeling our entire existence is under existential threat due to a bunch of American's deciding to look the other way at endless reams of data on what an awful human being Trump is and has always been. Our chronic problems could also be fatal, but until we deal with the exigent and salient threat that is Drumpf it's hard to see any light.

Kelly is a hard-case, but he's pretty apolitical (he would have gone to work for Clinton as readily as he did for Trump). He brings nothing to the table vis-a-vis tweaking liberal noses.Rip wrote:Too low key.Max Peck wrote:The obvious choice would be Pence.Rip wrote:Well I did vote for him, reluctantly.Kraken wrote:Odd choice for an avatar, then.Rip wrote:Funny thing is I don't really care for Trump.

Re: Trump's Full Court Press on healthcare
If they exercised their "freedom" not to be insured or pay for other people like you preach (or fight litigious plaintiffs with "phony" claims out of principle), then you'd be screwed, Rip. And lawsuits take years, even if they were sufficiently insured and you had a good lawyer with enough evidence to win. Your lawyer would take 1/3, even if you won and collected.
My wife was hit by a freight train and lived. Her case was rock solid. She cleared enough to pay off the extensive medical debt and college, no more. I've supported her medical costs for 20 years. Avoiding ANY gap in medical insurance has been a big part of my life. You've been fortunate enough not to have to worry.
Yet. Your false illusions about medical insurance could dissolve in an instant once you need it. You'll never know until it's too late. If you live long enough, you will need medical care. Fact of life, and medical costs before death are the highest. By then, it could be too late if your short-sighted, ignorant views become law.

That's a good point. I should go tell my dad - currently hospitalized, undergoing chemo for Stage IV pancreatic cancer, and probably running up $10K every couple of days - to just suck it up, quit being such a baby, and deplete what life savings he has left to pay for his own goddamn medical bills.Rip wrote:In the cancer case yes, food poisoning or pneumonia I would tough out or if it got bad enough go to the doctor and pay. Sounds like your dad had insurance. If not I am quite sure they would deplete his life savings for him. Just like my wife and her siblings are having done at this moment by their dad. Who isn't even in a hospital yet but he has parkinsons and the dominoes are already falling. At this point they are all having to consider how to protect themselves from having the cost of his care end up being their debt.Skinypupy wrote:That's a good point. It's the resentment over being fortunate enough not to have sucked off the socialist teat, while ignoring all of the mother's milk he drinks from the government every day. It's enough to make one furious if you see it.

I do think the law making the change would account for this somehow. I also think that coupling health insurance to jobs was relatively effective in the mid- 20th century, but is becoming far more burdensome in the 21st, where there has been a dramatic change in how people work.msteelers wrote:I tend to agree with Jeff V here. Most hospital's would rather get paid the in network rates in a timely manner than chase down patients for billed charges they probably won't pay, it will fight for years. The problem is when second party providers are involved. Like the company in the article, who are only after money (and who don't have to worry about reputations since the hospital will get blamed). Or just per diem or non affiliated providers who they have no control over in terms of what plans they are in. Smaller hospitals can't just go out and hire every doctor they need. Hell, but hospitals can't a lot of the time. So they rely on independent providers or mercenary hospital based groups like in the article.LordMortis wrote:Trump isn't to blame for this but, yeah, single payer... I have a Cadillac plan that mitigates out of network fiascos but I can easily imagine based on the code fuckups I've fought in my lifetime what people can go through thinking they are visiting an in network hospital only to find someone looked at their chart and can bill them whatever because the in network hospital contracted out of network staff.

Contracting out is fine, but in most other industries, the subcontractor does not get to bill the customer using different terms and conditions. If someone went to an in-network hospital for care, all care provided in that hospital should be covered in network and all billing done through the hospital. The way it happens now is near-criminal bullshit.LawBeefaroni wrote:Most hospital's would rather get paid the in network rates in a timely manner than chase down patients for billed charges they probably won't pay, it will fight for years. It looks like Heller's vote wasn't enough to stave off a primary challenger. Should be fun since Heller does have McConnell's checkbook available to him to the tune of at a million dollars.
