The Trump Presidency - The Soundtrack

Post by tgb »

Rip's posting of Pink Floyd notwithstanding, there are plenty of good songs that could be collected as a soundtrack to the Age of the Loofa-faced Fascist Shitgibbon.

Nothing like a little Woody to kick it off:
The crops are all in and the peaches are rott'ning,
The oranges piled in their creosote dumps;
They're flying 'em back to the Mexican border
To pay all their money to wade back again

Goodbye to my Juan, goodbye, Rosalita,
Adios mis amigos, Jesus y Maria;
You won't have your names when you ride the big airplane,
All they will call you will be "deportees"

My father's own father, he waded that river,
They took all the money he made in his life;
My brothers and sisters come working the fruit trees,
And they rode the truck till they took down and died.

Some of us are illegal, and some are not wanted,
Our work contract's out and we have to move on;
Six hundred miles to that Mexican border,
They chase us like outlaws, like rustlers, like thieves.

We died in your hills, we died in your deserts,
We died in your valleys and died on your plains.
We died 'neath your trees and we died in your bushes,
Both sides of the river, we died just the same.
I spent 90% of the money I made on women, booze, and drugs. The other 10% I just pissed away.

For me, it's Kicked It in the Sun by Built to Spill:
He seemed so unashamed of how he operated
Corresponds to the facts that you want
Despite his expectations he turned out mediocre
His master plan was so so
. . .
He woke up late that morning
Went to the window and saw
The sun had stopped its shining
So, so

Why don't you tell me
What do you need?
There is a blank page
For you

Give me the bones of
What you believe
Maybe they'll save you
From me

Will I be the strong hand
Keeping you safe
Or will I break you
In half

And you will never
Be under my thumb
But you are not your
Own man

See the way we all run
When we know it all off by heart
Playing down, waiting all out
Will we win or lose it this time?

When the pressure's building for a great white hope
Do you give up things that you love?
And the pressure's building 'til it takes you whole
Can you go back on your own word?

All of your brothers
They never died
For what you kill for
Slowly

How it will grind you
Into the ground
If you should try to
Hold me

See the way we all run
When we know it all off by heart
Played down, waiting all out
When we win or lose it this time

When the pressure's building for a great white hope
Do you give up things you love?
And the pressure's building 'til it takes you whole
Can you go back on your own word?

When the pressure's building for a great white hope
Do you give up things you love?
And the pressure's building 'til it takes you whole
Can you go back on your own word?

Common Man -The Blasters
Ah, he wasn’t born in a cabin,
He never fought in a war.
But he learned to smile and quote Abe Lincoln,
And get his foot in the door.

Ah, he knows all your problems,
Ah, he shares all your dreams.
Ah, when he laughs his wife laughs too,
As they ride in their limousine.

Chorus:
So wave the flag and take a stand,
Stand in line to shake his hand.
He says he’s your friend,
A friend of the common man

Ah, he’s got all the answers,
The good days will be back soon.
Just one more strike and a compromise,
And a hungry child in each classroom.

Chorus:
So wave the flag and take a stand,
Stand in line to shake his hand.
He says he’s your friend,
A friend of the common man

Everybody works day to day to get by,
Ah, every mornin’ searchin’ for a reason to try.
Ain’t he the friend?
The friend of the common man?

Ah, he wasn’t born in a cabin,
He never fought in a war.
But he learned to smile and quote Abe Lincoln,
And get his foot in the door.

With one hand on the bible,
He swears he’s only here to serve.
While everyone says “for better or worse,”
We get what we deserve.

Chorus:
So wave the flag and take a stand,
Stand in line to shake his hand.
He says he’s your friend,
A friend of the common man

Chorus:
So wave the flag and take a stand,
Stand in line to shake his hand.
He says he’s your friend,
A friend of the common man

The Monitor by Titus Andronicus, which of course is actually largely about the Civil War and how we're still not over it, both in its complexity and its simplicity and was relevant before Trump took office as well. And then is further about the a divide in mankind going back much further than the civil war.

The Clowns by The Clarks
There’s a rusting religion with a broken converter
Parse the good book’s words justifying hate and murder

In a government lockbox everything gets lost
Like old grease on a sprocket
We sent Jack up the Hill to fix it all
He tumbled down with gold lined pockets

It’s going down right now
What do we do now?

Send in the clowns, the clowns
Run into the ground
When you send in the clowns

Winner at all cost on a soapbox
He spoke in doubletalk and riddles
Sounds so good I was in a spell
But while the town was burning he played the fiddle

I had a dream that I would come back
And what was stolen by the state had been replaced
And we’d replant love where there was loss
Then send the grifters a coup de grace

It’s going down right now
What do we do now?

Send in the clowns, the clowns
Run into the ground
When you send in the clowns
The song came out on an album released in 2009. I never knew if it was inspired by Obama or Bush, but it's perfect for Trump.

House of Cards by Leftover Salmon crosses my Spotify feed today. It was released right after Charlottesville.

Geez, seems like all my playlists are loaded with. Trump soundtrack songs. I listen to a lot of punk, folk, and other rebel shit.

You know how they say that when you've just gone through a breakup, every sad love song seems like it's about you? Well, every dystopian, angry, oppressed, screwed, tragic song seems to be about this administration.

Here's one from my workout playlist that always makes me glance at the CNN screen to see what bullshit our Fuckoff-in-Chief is up to that minute.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Allow them
They just crawled out of the woodwork
Allow them
La cucaracha in the expensive suit and tie
Allow them
Failure has far too many fathers
Allow them
Succeed and you're an orphan 'til you die

Now then
No one is saying they deserve it
What's more
They've gotten more than they deserve

Allow them
They've got a pitch and a proposal
Allow them
The runaround might be a better term for it
Allow them

And they think that they've got us at their disposal
Allow them
Sit still this wont hurt a bit

Now then
Now no one's saying they deserve it
What's more
they've gotten more than they deserve

The day will come when there is nothing left to be afraid of
Allow them
They will destroy themselves if we allow them to

It's such a cold cold whorey place
There's more than rats running in the race
There's more than weasels calling in the plays
These are cold cold whorey days

Deception is an ax they wield
There's wands to wave with every call they field
This is just not us at all
And if it is, we've dropped the ball

And we know who's not a carrier
They hide behind a barrier
That they'll destroy themselves somehow
It's up to us if we allow
They will destroy themselves if we allow them to

Allow them
They're setting it in motion
Unaware, unaware where they are heading to right now
Allow them
We'll wait for the commotion
That's bound to come
Bound to come
Bound to come if we allow

Now then
No one's saying they deserve it
What's more
They've gotten more than they deserve
The day will come when there is nothing left to be afraid of
Allow them
They will destroy themselves if we allow them to
It seems overly optimistic I suppose. Which is crazy.

Who can forget Trump's actual Russian collusion with Sergei Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" from election night. Here's the proof.

Interesting to note that if you search "Trump can't win" on you tube it does not appear. You have to search "Trump can't win" on google to find it at you tube. Some collusion going on there no doubt?

You should improve your skills.

I found easily on You Tube with a pretty basic understanding on how a ' can mess up a search.

You had to be very specific and search
"trump cant win"
if you searched without the quotations (trump cant win) (trump can't win) ("trump can't win") wouldn't bring it up. Clearly they're trying to hide it as I'm sure they believe someone who will leave out the apostrophe will also fail to place it within quotation marks.
