Many assumed it was an abuse of power from the start. Trump has a lot of support in that region especially amongst law enforcement so they certainly could have acted independently.
FWIW going from the article, none of the e-mails gave any real indication of an outside directive - most of the e-mails are the relevant officer e-mailing stuff to themselves about Stormy in advance of arrival. Unfortunately I wouldn't be shocked if some Trump-adjacent thug called local police to get this started, but the most likely explanation is that this was an overzealous cop coming at this from a Fox News / Trump devotee perspective, wanting to take down some slut who is defaming the President of the United States. Though stuff like this is itself a natural byproduct of Trump's rhetoric and style.malchior wrote: ↑Thu Jul 26, 2018 11:12 amMany assumed it was an abuse of power from the start. It's only an anecdote but I have a friend who just joined LE as a career. He is psyched because he has always wanted to be a LEO but the Trump worship is something he has related as what sounded like a concerning aspect. Also, detectives have a lot of independence so it wouldn't be that odd for it to not be a "conspiracy".
Michael Avenatti, the attorney who represents porn star Stormy Daniels, said Thursday that he is representing three other women who claim they were paid by Donald Trump, AMI and Michael Cohen to keep quiet.
Avenatti was doing a panel in West Hollywood that included Mayor John Duran, former federal prosecutor Steve Madison and Mariana Magana Gamero, who is part of the Coalition for Human Immigration Rights of Los Angeles.
During the panel, Avenatti stood up and announced the information to the audience. He said the women claim they were paid "hush money" by AMI Entertainment, Trump and his attorney Michael Cohen. He did not reveal what they were paid to stay quiet about.
"There are three additional female clients of mine that have not been disclosed that were paid hush money prior to the 2016 election, whether it be from Michael Cohen on behalf of the president, an entity that Michael Cohen formed, or AMI," he said.
A federal judge has dismissed adult film star Stormy Daniels' defamation lawsuit against President Donald Trump.
Daniels sued Trump after he said in a tweet that her story of a man threatening her not to come forward with her story of her alleged affair with Trump was "a total con job."
Daniels argued Trump's tweet, posted April 18, "attacks the veracity of her account" of the incident and that Trump's statement was "false and defamatory, and that the tweet was defamation ... because it charged her with committing a serious crime," District Judge S. James Otero wrote in his opinion Monday.
Trump had asked Otero to dismiss the lawsuit.
"The Court agrees with Mr. Trump's argument because the tweet in question constitutes 'rhetorical hyperbole' normally associated with politics and public discourse in the United States. The First Amendment protects this type of rhetorical statement," Otero wrote.
In addition to dismissing the lawsuit, Otero ruled Trump is entitled to attorney's fees.
I see what you did there.LawBeefaroni wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 11:43 am What a stable genius. A defamation case gets thrown out and he calls a woman "horseface". A class act.
Captain Caveman wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 12:03 pm This is all going to end with Trump tweeting a dick pic, isn't it?
Wait, so he's calling himself a "total con"?
Trying to let this sink in."The Court agrees with Mr. Trump's argument because the tweet in question constitutes 'rhetorical hyperbole' normally associated with politics and public discourse in the United States. The First Amendment protects this type of rhetorical statement,"
It doesn't matter as long as they win.
I would update my avatar.Captain Caveman wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 12:03 pm This is all going to end with Trump tweeting a dick pic, isn't it?
This is a bad example because a huge amount of people do exactly that, but I get your point. I think we can all agree that everyone has their own line in the sand when it comes to self interest, and rightly so, imo.YellowKing wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 3:46 pm It just irritates me that people are so willing to look past character as long as that person agrees with their policies. That's insane. Can you imagine if your boss was a racist, sexually harassed all the women in the office, told offensive jokes, cheated the company out of money, and you were like, "Well, the guy signs my paychecks! Whaddya gonna do?" Maybe some people can. I'm not wired that way, and I don't understand it.
Well, traditionally the only alternative has been an individual with similarly bad character who didn't hit those 10 things.YellowKing wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 3:46 pm And yet in politics, as long as you can show a bullet point list of "these 10 things I believe in", then you're given a free pass? It's absolutely ludicrous.
I have yet to come across anyone that voted for him and believes he's a man of "good character". Maybe there are people out there that think that, but I doubt it's many. I doubt ANYONE voted for him because of "good character". Even in this Age of Truthiness, that is indefensible.
Mortoned!LawBeefaroni wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 12:06 pm I guarantee, right now he's stomping around throwing a tantrum and demanding that the CIA Putin assassinate her or something.
Perhaps, but there is no shortage of people willing to defend his actions in various media, and not just comment section trolls. Fox dude suggested that tax evasion was a smart move, for example.Carpet_pissr wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 5:41 pm I have yet to come across anyone that voted for him and believes he's a man of "good character". I've met a rather large number of Trump supporters who insist he and his family are good people. The best people. Really, nobody better type of people.Carpet_pissr wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 5:41 pmI have yet to come across anyone that voted for him and believes he's a man of "good character". It often comes down to whataboutism: Democrats are violent foreign-loving criminal socialists. However bad Trump can be, the other guys are worse. Clintons! OBAMA!msteelers wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 6:09 pmI've met a rather large number of Trump supporters who insist he and his family are good people. The best people. I mean he'll probably tweet, "Won't someone rid me of this turbulent prostitute!" Well, not verbatim, that would be far too literate. But something similar, maybe like his 2A assassin thing about Hillary.Carpet_pissr wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 5:45 pmMortoned!LawBeefaroni wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 12:06 pm I guarantee, right now he's stomping around throwing a tantrum and demanding that the CIA Putin assassinate her or something.
3.5 And he's still not Hillary and Feinstien.Carpet_pissr wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 5:41 pm 3. Can't admit they voted for someone THAT shitty, I mean, what would that say about them and their judgement?
4.5 I gotta get mine. I earned mine. Republicans protect mine. From Demoncrats who just want to take everything from me and give to someone who is worthless.4. DO NOT CARE. I think a big huge chunk of people are in this category. Just vote straight R no matter what
Very confuse.News of his arrest was first reported by TMZ, which had initially reported that his estranged wife was involved. In a statement to BuzzFeed News, though, attorneys for Lisa Storie-Avenatti refuted that report.
"My client and I have reviewed the TMZ article alleging that my client, Lisa Storie-Avenatti, has been injured and that Michael Avenatti has been arrested as a result of some incident that occurred between them. This article is not true as it pertains to my client," the statement said. "Ms. Storie-Avenatti was not subject to any such incident on Tuesday night. Further, she was not at Mr. Avenatti’s apartment on the date that this alleged incident occurred. My client states that there has never been domestic violence in her relationship with Michael and that she has never known Michael to be physically violent toward anyone."
Maybe a third party submitted a (false?) report to the police, something along the line of a swat attempt. That would certainly be a deplorable thing to do.Holman wrote: ↑Wed Nov 14, 2018 8:46 pm Oh noes!
Asshole.
(Allegedly.)
EDIT: Wait, what?
Avenatti's wife's attorney is disputing the report of domestic violence.
