There was a good article I read (and forgive, me I don't remember the source), but it was talking about what we already kind of know - that most Americans politics begins and ends with their paycheck. Nothing else even registers, so even if we have an authoritarian madman in office, they'll keep pushing the lever for him as long as their bottom line is good.
It was a pretty scary article inasmuch that it reaffirmed that we as a society are not in the mindset of revolution even if it's called for. We are boiled frogs.
Isn't this basically the essence of MAGA?
If something doesn't directly cause harm to me or my family, then it doesn't matter. If someone is suffering, they should just get more bootstrappy, work harder, and quit being such a burden to society. They're not my problem, and they should just quiet down so I can keep ignoring them.
The moment it does affect me, however, then it's critical that the government intervene and find a solution. Because I'm hurting and it's just not fair!

FWIW Schiff's closing speech for the trial is worth a watch if you have the inclination. He is really was the right person for this job.
Most of the time Schiff has been making his remarks without scripting. On the days of the trial, he took notes over the course of the day and then stood to address the room without a break. No team of speechwriters, no practice.
Donald Trump couldn't deliver Schiff's remarks from a teleprompter if you gave him a week, an acting coach, and a bucket of Adderall.

When it all comes down though. Then things get interesting.
How so? The ruling class will retreat to their properties in safe areas like Dubai or the Dakotas wherever. The rabble will tear each other apart to get to any semblance of modern living. Anyone willing to live on a subsistence diet and die of disease and malnutrition will probably be welcome to do so.
I don't believe Dubai or the Dakotas will be safe either. If I don't miss my guess, Dubai is a desert dependant on the modern world surrounded by volitile oil dependant nations. The Dakotas will be the first place the starving hordes will head looking for revenge and or stockpiles.

Here's the speech:
You can craft a good speech when you have truth and right on your side. Even though it fell on deaf ears, I'm glad it's on record (and that I watched it).
I would vote for Schiff for President, even though he's a vegan.
"If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts." - Albert Einstein "I don't stand by anything." - Trump “Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.” - John Stuart Mill, Inaugural Address Delivered to the University of St Andrews, 2/1/1867 “It is the impractical things in this tumultuous hell-scape of a world that matter most. A book, a name, chicken soup. They help us remember that, even in our darkest hour, life is still to be savored.” - Poe, Altered Carbon
No no. They said he 'knows now' that he has official mechanisms to ask for foreign investigations and will do the right thing going forward. #trustintheGOPcult
Sen. Rand Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, read on the Senate floor the question Chief Justice John Roberts refused to read during the trial.
The question named the alleged whistleblower but Paul argued he’s not outing anyone because he doesn’t know who the whistleblower is.
He also had the question blown up on a placard next to him on the Senate floor.
When asked about singling out the alleged whistleblower, Paul said, “I would say the Chief Justice did that. By not allowing the question — he’s sort of confirming to the public who it is. I have no idea who it is. I don’t have any independent information.”
Paul has proven himself an outstanding scumbag in a group full of scumbags. Good job on making potential whistleblowers everywhere feel like the government doesn't have their backs anymore.
Guess it'll be autocracy. We have met our enemies and it is ourselves. To be fair, this probably reflects GOP-lean folks rallying around the 'flag' here. I think it'll vanish in a week or two. Still it is disturbing that our nation is this broken.
The irony is he's literally doing fuck-all to get anything accomplished. All he's done is tear down the previous administration's accomplishments. Which I guess, to his supporters, is progress.
I think you're forgetting about the largest tax cut EVER! I heard people saying it couldn't be done, but I did it and let me tell you it's amazing.
Oh and he rebuilt the military from the shambles it was under Obama!
Seriously though the one thing he's great at is just telling people what they want to hear. Doesn't matter if it's true as long as they want it to be. You could pull up a chart and see the stock market and job market did better under Obama, but it wouldn't matter. Fake news... That's not what our dear leader is saying...
Capitalism tries for a delicate balance: It attempts to work things out so that everyone gets just enough stuff to keep them from getting violent and trying to take other people’s stuff.
I hope Maine tosses Susan Collins out of office this fall - Trump can't even play along with her here. She deserves nothing but derision for her stance on this. She is an obsequious fraud kowtowing to a monster.
Asked about Sen. Susan Collins saying he’d learned a lesson, Trump told the anchors he did not agree. He had done nothing wrong. “It was a perfect call.”
Wait...he’s gonna award the Medal of Freedom to Rush Limbaugh?
The same Rush Limbaugh who says feminists are just ugly women with a grudge? That a black caller should take the bone out of his nose? That loves stocking up on Viagra and heading out on sex tours of the Dominican Republic?
What, he doesn’t have David Duke’s number or something?

Don't worry he dropped it on that racist prick in the middle of the SOTU to troll the Democrats. He is unleashed.
Well of course. He's going to try and pretend like he wasn't impeached. And I'm sure over the next year, it might as well be true for all it will matter.
Dark, dark days ahead. He's only just now warming up thanks to the GOP officially telling him they don't care.

Amazing that the only mention of the impeachment tonight came from the Dem rebuttal.
Following Clinton's example. He didn't mention it either during his address.

Yep - 2020 has been a total mess already. With Iowa and this shit show as the opener this is going to be an extremely consequential year.

I got excited about this until I learned that he is a DEM.
How is this big news? I mean wasn't it a given that all DEMs would vote YEA?

While feeding all the beasties out back I let a nice big fart. The smell followed all the way back to the house. It's like it was my baby and felt abandoned.

No. There are 3 red state or red lean Senators (Manchin, Jones, and Sinema) that might go for acquittal. Trump badly wants at least one Dem acquittal vote to say it was a bipartisan acquittal. Jones held the line. Sinema and Manchin are the other two uncertain right now. It'll be a huge talking point for Trump if they bend.

I'd be surprised if Sinema voted to acquit, since it's not like Arizona is blood red these days, but it's possible. Manchin might (have you met the West Virginia electorate?), though gun to my head I'd say he probably votes to convict as well.

It basically means he's not going to get re-elected.
He probably wasn't going to anyways, so I imagine he viewed this move as very low risk.
But he’s a blue in a red state. He won in that same state which by my rudimentary understanding of politics was no small feat to begin with. So how does this make it any harder the next time?

His opponent was a credibly accused pedophile (Roy Moore).
It sure sounds like Romney is voting to convict. I don't know if he will but his speech leans that way.
Edit: He is voting to convict! Wow he is laying it on thick. He is essentially repeating Schiff's case as the basis of his POV. Seriously - that was a profile in courage moment.

He made Collins, Murkowski, and Alexander look really small right now. Now the WH just at the last minute cancelled a presser with Guaido. #trumptempertantrum
