Fox host Chris Wallace tells Romney that his action means "this is war." Wallace: "Donald Trump will never forgive you for this." Romney replies by quoting from a hymn: “Do what is right. Let the consequence follow.”

Check out the speech - it felt like a true moment of honesty. The calculation that I saw was that he didn't cast a net outward from himself onto the rest of his fellow Senators.

Well, now no matter how Manchin votes, Trump can say the vote was bipartisan!

I doubt that anyone will follow him. I think this is a matter of principle and belief for Romney, to his credit. I don't know if Gardner has said - he might have some electoral reasons to vote to convict at this point, but I very much doubt that he will.

I wonder if all the shit Romney is going to get from Trump and other members of the GOP will force him out of the party (ala Justin Amash)? But pretty awesome that the 2012 GOP nominee for president just voted to convict the 2016 winner from his own party.

Agreed. He made me nervous when it seemed like he fell and I was torn when CPAC twittered him as an enemy with the exact picture meme democrats used to refer to him as Reek. Where he appears to be emoting, "how has it come to this? while sitting with POTUS" (They, of course, don't show POTUS)

No matter what came before or what comes after, thank you Mitt. It's you and Amash. Unlikely bedfellows, but thank you.

To be a fly on the wall when Mitch McConnell returns to his private quarters. I bet he's going pitch a fit over this.

Trump will pitch a fit. Mitch will serenely declare that Romney has the right to be wrong and that this proves beyond doubt that the trial was deliberate and fair.

I think I read that he's already cancelled scheduled press events this afternoon. Is it wrong to hope for a stroke? It's probably wrong.

He'll spin it in public somehow, yes. But in private? I have no doubt he's going to be enraged. Is it wrong to hope for a stroke here too? It's still probably wrong.

McConnell just did his bit for democracy. Honestly defending the President! No I mean he got up and just lied and lied and lied. It could be used to induce vomiting. It was that toxic. I wouldn't mind watching Mitch McConnell stroke out but maybe in a survivable way that leaves him trapped in his own brain unable to speak. That'd be nice.

Yeah, at this point I'm basically hoping that he dies. That's the only immediate fix to the immediate existential problem (most cults do not survive intact the death of their leader). Trumpism will still outlast Trump, but it's much easier to stomp it into the mud when Trump is no longer around. And for that matter, McConnell is welcome to drop dead too.

Unfortunately the most likely outcome. The GOP has been working towards this point on its own pre-Trump. He just was able to wrestle the ball away in a heavily divided field. It is going to be a long year.

If the Dems continue with going down the Impeachment road on these issues, it will not bode well for them.
Right or wrong, I have a feeling the general public is tired of their insistence on pursuing this.
Give him time. He'll do something else you can try and nail him on.

There is plenty still that he doesn't have to do something else, but he we probably will intentionally just to get that outcome.

So, more R believe he asked Ukraine to investigate a political revival in return for releasing defense funding than believed that he obstructed Congress? With no witnesses allowed, documents released, and the decision to acquit broadcast/mandated before the trial? Really?
