Re: Who will win Iowa?
Some entrance poll info (less reliable than exit poll info, since this is just their intention, and stuff can change over the course of the night. Plus, of course, there's margin of error, etc, to keep in mind) I caught from CBS news:
32-35% first time Caucus goers (I saw two different numbers)
Top issue: Healthcare (41%), Climate Change (21%), Income Inequality (16%), Foreign Policy (14%)
Prefer candidate that agrees on the issue (37%), Can beat Trump (61%)
42% Men, 58% Women
Age 17-29 (21%) 30-44 (21%) 45-64 (28%) 65+ (30%)
In terms of Electability, it was Biden followed by Buttigieg (didn't catch the whole thing or the numbers)

It's a weird process to say the least and the state isn't a battleground anymore so these candidates will not pay it much attention after today. Meanwhile trump continues to rampage.

It depends on what you consider a battleground. It's unlikely to be decisive given it's size, but I think it falls in the swing state camp, and the campaigns won't ignore it, especially if Buttigieg or Klobuchar are the nominees.

Sounds like this is squarely on the (Iowa?) DNC. In any case, the Democratic party is amazingly incompetent. The first political event of probably one of the most important elections in American history goes down like this. This year is going to be a shit show.

Frankly the paper trail doesn't matter much with these type of headlines/conspiracy theories already flying. At least the DNC now has an excuse to ask Iowa to run further back in the line now for the future ceremonial Trump opponents. Just kidding...I hope.

Re: Who will win Iowa?
The Sanders campaign released internal reporting numbers. They apparently represent the results of under 40% of the precincts so while it's not the complete result (and it also comes from Sanders volunteers so we don't know how accurate obviously) I thought it was interesting while we wait for the official result:
Sanders 29,66%
Buttigieg 24,59%
Warren 21,24%
Biden 12,37%
Klobuchar 11,00%
Yang 0,90%
Steyer 0,24%
Gabbard 0,01%
Good news for Mayor Pete and Liz Warren fans if these numbers hold true. Bad news for Biden fans - if such beings exist.

Buttigieg released a memo and their data for 75+% of the precincts, which show him getting 28% of the State Delegate Equivalents.

Re: Who will win Iowa?
Statement.
That's not exactly what the precincts were reporting. As part of our investigation, we determined with certainty that the underlying data collected via the app was sound. While the app was recording data accurately, it was reporting out only partial data. We have determined that this was due to a coding issue in the reporting system. This issue was identified and fixed. The application’s reporting issue did not impact the ability of precinct chairs to report data accurately.

Re: Who will win Iowa?
Last night and this morning Bernieland has been indulging the conspiracy that this is all a scheme to deny Sanders a win or a post-Iowa bump or something.
Meanwhile, the Biden campaign (reportedly fearing that he came in a weak fourth) has suggested that the whole caucus might be invalid.
Pete didn't make himself any friends by declaring victory with no precincts reported.
Warren and Klobuchar seem to have handled the mess the most gracefully, counseling patience and sticking to their campaign messages.

Re: Who will win Iowa?
No matter the result it'll likely be a bit diminished in importance versus a usual year. The results are tainted, the usual media coverage impact is blunted, and this likely helps Biden. Pete or Sanders winning would have been big for them which is probably why both Pete and the Sanders camp gambled on releasing their data to try to capture a pop they might be losing otherwise. It may backfire but it makes sense in its own way.

Say what you want about Rick Wilson, but I can't find fault with this commentary:
The 24 hour news cycle and "I need this now!" mentality of the modern world is ruining everything.Every. Single. Fucking. Election.
1. Hand counted
2. Paper ballots
3. Records preserved
4. Absolutely nothing posted until a second count is complete.
Do I have to do ALL of this for you?

(satire)Calling the delay in the release of the Iowa caucus results “a threat to democracy,” the state of Florida has offered to help Iowa with the vote-counting process.
Harland Dorrinson, a spokesman for Florida’s official electoral commission, said on Tuesday morning that “Florida stands ready and willing to restore credibility to Iowa’s vote-tabulation procedures.”

Re: Who will win Iowa?
It's ironic (but not surprising) that there are Sanders supporters are going down the conspiracy theory path, given that Sanders team was pushing to keep caucuses (while Clinton's team was trying to get them changed to primaries), and the decision to make the change and release three sets of results (for more transparency) was the result of Sanders pushing for the DNC to make the change. So maybe they should look in the mirror...

The latest report is that the Iowa DNC was now retrieving all the paper ballots to ensure the count. This will potentially massively delay the results and feed into the conspiracy theories. I have to wonder if we get a result today even.

It's a major contributor as to why I turned away from him. If you add seeing over time that he's quick to throw out whatever comes to mind as if it's fact and that he sees himself as the catalyst for a better America, not his ideas, I tapped out. The idea that a president has to make being elect and being elected the same thing is big turn off for me.YellowKing wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2020 1:21 pm Rabid Bernie supporters who cry conspiracy every time things don't go their way is one reason I've never really liked him.

Re: Who will win Iowa?
The GOP cult is literally just dunking all over the Democrats today. This is a bigger propaganda win for them then they could have ever dreamed up for themselves. They are dropping comparisons of the this app to the Obamacare website, questioning how Americans can trust them to run a country when they can't even count votes, etc. This is a massive black eye not just for Iowa but the increasingly battered Democratic brand and ultimately democracy in this nation. The Democratic process was bad to begin with but we are verging on chaos here. We can only hope they get something out today.YellowKing wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2020 1:21 pm Rabid Bernie supporters who cry conspiracy every time things don't go their way is one reason I've never really liked him. Edit: Good lord are these idiots incompetent. Partial results!?! What kind of stupidity is this?
Price said the number of results that will be released will be “more than 50%.”
That raised issues among campaigns, including one unnamed operative who said “if you put out 50% of results, people are going to take that as final.”

I'm aware that Bernie might eventually be the nominee, so I need to preserve a willingness to vote for him if he is.
The best way to do this, as far as I can tell, is to unfollow and mute his most, um, "enthusiastic" followers whenever possible.
