The FBI has "received information about an identified armed group intending to travel to Washington, DC on 16 January. They have warned that if Congress attempts to remove POTUS via the 25th Amendment a huge uprising will occur," according to a bulletin obtained by @ABC. I don't think it's hyperbole to say that this could easily spill into another civil war. Hell, it might have already started with what we just saw and we are "in it". Lot of right-wing web-sites out there already assuming/hoping/expecting it to happen.

Unrelated, kinda: I'm frustrated at all the coverage that lumps in Republicans with Trumpsters. It has been clear for a long time now that these two entities have split, and will continue to diverge. Hell, Trump himself basically lit the fuse of dynamite under the GOP as a whole in his speech last week. I've seen off and on comments or calls or stances from Trump supporters that they despise the GOP and consider them traitors (this is well before the castle storming). It's beyond "If you ain't with us, you agin' us!", it's more like "if you ain't with us HARDCORE ENOUGH, you agin' us" That's really IMO the only hope we have right now, is that the Trump "faction" has such a high loyalty test, that they have or are diminishing their numbers tremendously. Or I HOPE that is the case. If it's NOT the case, and this even harder turn to the right ends up adding to their numbers, then we are all fucked anyway, and it doesn't really matter. :D

When you have a faction of people allowed to roam through the Capitol hallways looking for Mike Pence to string him up...MIKE PENCE...that is not easily resolved. Those people are Republicans? I think not. Not anymore, at least. We desperately need new terms/names, because "Republicans" is not granular enough anymore.
I read an opinion piece somewhere last night that split Republicans into Gamers and Breakers. McConnell leads the gamers, who play the rules to stay in power (gerrymanders, voter suppression, etc); trump and his minions are breakers who will burn it all down to rule over the ashes. The two factions have been in an uneasy detente until now.

Some possible misconceptions of the coup crew:

Trump will protect us.
If I proudly display my patriotism, no harm can come to me.
The second amendment allows me to carry weapons into the US Capitol.
No authorities monitor social media.
Telling the truth is not sedition.
Police will only shoot brown people.
If I get arrested Trump will pardon me.
If the coup fails it is business as usual.

In a post-9/11 world, the idea that a country could strike the capitol (through terrorism) isn't that absurd. Especially if the only information you're aware of is the Capitol Police bursting in and taking the VP and the two Senate leaders away to safety.

Collins is clearly lying, though. The rally was going on for a couple of hours before they marched to the Capitol and began hammering their way in. The situation was a matter of utmost concern to everyone in the building, including Collins' colleagues and all of their aides. You can't not hear a crowd of howling thousands on your front lawn, even before they break down the doors.

She narrates it as if she had no idea anything was happening until the Secret Service hustled Pence away. I call bullshit.

I totally feel for the Capitol Police... generally... but this the problem with the "few bad apples" in these departments. I hope this is the sort of thing that finally gets police to turn on those apples.

also other links reported an officer or military personel arrested

https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/11/politics ... index.html
(CNN)Two Capitol Police officers have been suspended and another individual has been arrested for their alleged roles in the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, said Rep. Tim Ryan.
"There were two people suspended. One was the selfie officer and another was an officer who had put a MAGA hat on and started directing some people around," said Ryan, an Ohio Democrat who is chair of the House subcommittee handling the investigation into the response to the insurrection. "It was the interim chief who determined that to be qualifying for immediate suspension."
Ryan had fewer details about the individual who was arrested, and was not sure if the person was a police officer or a member of the National Guard. He told reporters he would have more details later.
He added that there are approximately 10 to 15 Capitol Police officers under investigation for their behavior during the riot but did not have more specifics.
It's very short so I quote in full. If that is verboten feel free to remove it for me.

I have no idea what actually went through Collins head in the heat of the moment, but I would bet that there are any number of terrorist organizations, state-sponsored or not, that are kicking themselves for not being in a position to infiltrate that mob with one or more suicide bombers. Someone kitted out like Zip Tie Guy #1 could have packed plenty of explosives in his tactical vest and have plenty of time to position themselves at an optimal location to make a statement.

I saw her quote in a very different light. I think she knew what was going on but, by comparing the rioters to Iranian Terrorists, she sent a message about what she thought about the mob without directly criticizing them in a way that would hurt her as a Republican politician.

Complicit VP, for reference (as if you're surprised)

A senior administration official confirms that President Trump and Vice President Pence met this evening in the oval office. The readout says they "pledged to continue to work on behalf of the country for the remainder of their term." Seemingly ruling out the 25th Amendment.

The Trump Pence meeting was probably just straight up extortion. "Donny, I'm the President for the next ten days. I make the decisions, I write the copy. You sign what I put in front of you. You stay in your room, keep your mouth shut, and watch your gorillas. Oh, and if you don't, I say three words and you're fired for being a nutjob. Ok? I'll have some chicken sent up later."

Seriously, Pence holds all the cards for the next week and a half.
