Protection from below is probably all the risk assessment required. They've got all the rooftops ostensibly.

Wait... Are you going to be in one of those presidential stories about crying men who never cry except when they're thanking the President?

Depends on where the bullet is coming from. If any potential bullet could only come from below (and not too far away) aiming upwards then, depending on the angle, it could be sufficient. But yes, odd.

They're standing on a very elevated stage. A shooter on the ground would hit the glass. I'm sure all the buildings that could provide an angle over the glass have been secured by the Secret Service.

Don't underestimate the camera angle, either. It's likely high, and the glass is higher than it seems to be.

This is the first inauguration I've ever listened to. I still think they should have had Aaron Sorkin write the speech, but it's not bad.

This is a fine day of speech. He is going to have to show some plan for popping that bubble. Otherwise, this is a bit of a fantasy of its own. That doesn't absolutely need to be sussed out today IMO.

Dont think Ive watched an entire one since Bill Clinton until now. Of course I was younger and growing up in those times and busy.

When I hear anyone say "My fellow Americans" I instantly remember Bill Clinton always saying that.

I'd love to hear a Sorkin speech, but I think this speech is tailor-made for Joe, both with the sentiments and speech pattern.

And just as I type this, "Joy cometh in the morning." Takes me right back to a speech on West Wing.
Bartlet:'Joy cometh in the morning,' scripture tells us. I hope so. I don't know if life would be worth living if it didn't. And I don't yet know who set off the bomb at Kennison State. I don't know if it's one person or ten, and I don't know what they want. All I know for sure, all I know for certain, is that they weren't born wanting to do this. There's evil in the world, there'll always be, and we can't do anything about that. But there's violence in our schools, too much mayhem in our culture, and we can do something about that. There's not enough character, discipline, and depth in our classrooms; there aren't enough teachers in our classrooms. There isn't nearly enough, not nearly enough, not nearly enough money in our classrooms, and we can do something about that. We're not doing nearly enough, not nearly enough to teach our children well, and we can do better, and we must do better, and we will do better, and we will start this moment today! They weren't born wanting to do this.

It’s aspirational for sure, but feels like the right speech for this moment.

The stark difference from the past four years and the overwhelming sense of relief is bringing me to tears more than the content of the speech.

Yeah, I heard it too and immediately knew the reference. Oh sure, they say it is from the Bible, but I'm sure an all knowing God cribbed it from future-Sorkin. :)

Awesome speech and amazing the difference between his and the orange tyrant's inauguration speech.

So...hell yeah trump is the fuck outta there and here's to healing this country.

As a small message to the GOP, I have changed my affiliation from republican to democrat. Hopefully enough do so to make them notice.

She is amazing. The rhyme and the word.

Heard an interview with Gorman a few days ago. Apparently she had a severe speech impediment when she was younger, like Biden. Wasn't stuttering like him, but she struggled and overcame it like he did.

Yeah, that's not helping my ego a bit. How does someone so young get that type of eloquence?

Oh, also the wife kept the youngest home from preschool today to watch. I told her to watch on YTT instead of live and run it on a few minute delay, just in case. Hate that it even comes into the equation but there we are.

The kids were all watching downstairs, and I was also a bit concerned. They were watching online, though, and I was watching upstairs. My feed was at least a minute ahead of theirs, so I would have rushed downstairs and knocked things off if necessary.
