ATI power extension cable question

Post by Tim Frederick »

So I am FINALLY getting around to installing my Radeon 9800 XT to replace my 9600 pro this weekend. I got it in a trade, and either I lost, or did not receive a power extension cable. I assume that I do need one, or does my 9600 pro have one in there anyways? Do I need to try to get a new one or will I be ok once I open up the box?

Also, if I do need one, anyone have a spare?

What kind of connection is it? You may be able to plug it into your PSU without an extension cable.

I don't know if the 9600 pro uses one or not.

The 9600 does not use external power, PCI provides all it needs.
The 9800 has a standard molex connector (just like a HD).
If you have a connector free that fits the socket, use it.
