memory question

Postby Daehawk » Tue Aug 07, 2012 1:42 am

Ive been wanting 8 more gig for my system but dont want to pay more money right now. I still have the 8 gig from my previous build. Its nice memory as I always buy good stuff. It's Patriot viper and my new memory is Gskill ripjaws. The only difference is really just the speed. The older memory is just slightly slower than my new stuff. Since my mobo works in dual stuff I can add it no problem. But Im wonder just how bad that would be for the speed. I dont think Id even notice it but since it would all run at the speed of the slowest set then how bad would it be ? Better to have 16 gig a little slower or stay at 8 gig a little faster.

Im so sick of this system just hanging and pausing and having slow downloads even though the speed tests are fine. Im about to format and reinstall. If I go through with it I may not be on tomorrow. But I am curious about the memory. If its not a problem I plan to install the memory at the time of the clean sweep.

Well I wanted to wait to format and reinstall Win 7 until I had a SSD drive for it but I cannot wait. Windows fails to work around 80% of the time now. Multiple reboots to simply post this is too much. It dies tomorrow when Im not sleepy :) Hope it doesn't take over 6 hours and more importantly I can somehow save my drive partition with the backup stuff on it.

I hope I get this right. I have 2 hard drives. One is partitioned into C and E...C is my OS and E is my games. I plan to delete them both. D is a 2nd hard drive by itself and full of my back up drivers and such. I dotn want to lose that.

Why for both rather than just the C: partition? :|

Well once you kill the OS then the games never work again because it is missing DLLs and such. I kept only 2...I wanted to clean it anyways. i kept those two just for the saves. makes it easier to reinstall those.

That's handy to know. I uninstalled Steam though this time too :) The one game I kept was Iwar2 and I think it was from GoG. Im hoping if I reinstall it will wotk. Or I might have to install elsewhere and copy over. Trouble is I used some mods. I hope it just works :)
