Should I buy this bundle?

Buy it. At least you'll be able to run some games now!

Keep looking. You can do way better than that for that price.

Newegg.com Bundle Special?

Post by Gromit »

I'm looking to upgrade my computer (Athlon T-Bird 1GHz/768MB RAM) to something a little more hearty.

I've been given a pauper's budget by the spousal unit, and have been looking at this.

Does this look to be a decent package/price?

How about:

"It's a good deal but you can run games just fine on a lesser setup."

Don't forget a heatsink for your processor. The OEM version does NOT come with one. Otherwise, you're doing fine.

Heh... that link adds the pc to your shopping cart. I was doing some shopping earlier and for a moment I was like 'holy $hit he's getting alot of the same stuff I'm getting!'

Looking good there.

That is very close to what I am running. Different RAM, but close. Good deal.

I don't call that a paupers budget for the mobo, ram, and cpu. You can get pretty good performance with an athlon 3000 while still staying with the socket 939.

Also, you don't list your video card. If the card isn't up to the task, it doesn't matter what cpu you are running. I have a friend who has an athlon xp 1700 (overclocked to a 2200) and a 9800 pro. He gets much better gaming performance than I do with my P4 3.0c (overclocked to 3.4) and a 9600 NP. If you need to skimp on something, the motherboard and cpu are better to go with an average build than the video card.

That Sapphire is junk. It has half the pipes of the Radeon it's supposed to be. Otherwise, definitly not the system of a pauper.
