Plex for movie viewing

Post by stessier »

I'm being forced to take the next week off (plant shutdown) and I'll be getting my OTA antenna setup as a prelude to the final cord cutting. I also think I want to try and get Plex working. I've read Plex doesn't work with ISOs. Does anyone have a recommendation for a ripping program that would get me what I need? (I'm still in the early investigation stages and am not at all sure what I need beside "something other than an .iso".)

Makemkv couldn't be much simpler and easier to use, and is also free. Should you need it, Handbrake, which is also free, works well for compression.

yes it's extremely easy. A few years back I ripped my entire collection using makemkv and handbrake. I've compressed my blurays and now they take about 3 gigs instead of 22+. Quality looks fine to me.

Plex only wants to work with video files directly, not lumped into a menu.

So yes, use MakeMKV or transcode them.

I use it when I got bored. Server runs at home. I use DuckieTV to track which shows I watch and it will automatically go out and Torrent new episodes. They download into Plex's media directory and I can view Plex from ANY mobile device anywhere there's a connection (including over 3G)
