Seems rather harsh. Also as always the only winners in a class action suit are the lawyers...Get your $30 if you bought a GTX 970 and think that 500 meg ram matters being slower.
Earlier this year the GPU designer was hit with a class action lawsuit claiming the company had falsely advertised the GTX 970 as having 4GB of VRAM. Nvidia responded to the claims, however it will now have to pay out a hefty sum in compensation.
According to Top Class Actions, Nvidia will have to pay every buyer of the GTX 970 $30, and an additional $1.3 million in attorneys' fees. In addition, there's no cap on the total amount Nvidia will have to pay consumers.

Just a heads up - my $30 check from NVidia arrived today; must be cashed by 10/12/17 or it will be void. No additional checks will be offered, blah blah blah. Here's hoping some of you had success...

I got my check yesterday as well. <shrug> I'll take the money, didn't feel like the deceived me honestly. But it was an expensive card.

There's rumor that GPUs are cheaper on eBay when cryptocurrency miners are dumping their hardware due to drop in prices (and thus mining becoming unviable)
