mouse charging cable

Ive had my Logitech Performance MX mouse for many years now and still love it. Last month I noticed the charging cord right where it plugs into my mouse has the insulation broken and its allowing the wires to bend a lot. They will eventually break Im sure of it. I use the mouse corded when the power is low and thats starting to happen a little more these days as the battery in is as old as the mouse. thats a second thing Ill have to look into soon'ish.

Anyways I expected Logitech to want $20 for the cord but I was happy to see I can order the cord without the wall plug. Its a wall plug with usb so the cord can be replaced by itself. $5...then I check shipping and the shipping is $6 haha. A $5 cord costs $6 to ship. It will wait until next month.

I figure if the cord breaks I can use any micro usb cord to charge it. But I did not see a battery from them for sale. I wonder if any old store bought rechargeable will work..like a Enerloop or something good.

Side note...cord with plug wart is $10 so still not bad. Im surprised.

Logitech tech support says Performance MX uses regular AA NiMH rechargeable battery.

Thanks! Im guessing they use a pretty cheap battery and Im surprised at just how well its performed over the years.
